No, those aren't reposts so thanks! And she's got no Italian in her blood that I know of, but it's possible since Brazilians are usually a mix of everything under the sun and to me some of her family members look a little Italian like her grandma or her dad and little half brothers. She claims to speak Italian though, but that's probably from doing those TIM commercials back in the day.

No offense to Adri, but I find it funny when models do a commercial and then CLAIM to speak the language:lol:
Im sure she knew some sentences but i dont think she is fluent. So when i read in a magazine, she speaks 5 languages im like..??!?

Well she does speak french fluently, because she lived in Paris and actually learned at a young age. She does Speak Italian fluently, she does because she couldn't stand having voiceovers in her commercials so she told them she'd learn and they let her and by the time she was done, she continued to learn and is now fluent in it. She speaks a little bit of Spanish but she is fluent in French, English, Portuguese, and Italian.

Also she comes from a background of Indian, Native American, Caribbean, French, Swiss, and Japanese.

Ok you misunderstood me. I speak several languages and I KNOW how long it takes to actually learn a language, its more than a year or two..
Im sure she has some kind of knowledge in french and italian- simply because of her work. But you when you say fluently it means that she can write and speak perfectly in a given language. Now, I dont think she was taking language classes in between photoshoots or learning the grammar.
And how do you know how well she speaks them anyway? Have you spoken to her in french and italian??
...so I thought....

ps: and just because she comes from a diverse background doesnt automatically mean she knows all those languages. Even her english isn't that good if you think about it. i hope her other languages are better than english :)

Wow...okay
I know several languages as well, and I know what fleuntly means, and I personally didn't learn mine from books. I have a very diverse family and friends where I was able to learn it that way, and the odds and ends in books. So I know what I'm speaking about as well. I was saying I know she speaks French and Italian because her friends and family often speak them with her, and they can back her up on knowing she speaks them fluently. (They've actually been asked) She's actually very into teaching herself, she's often seen with bibles and books backstage at photoshoots reading and learning. Also like I said she lived in Paris for quite a while, which doesn't mean she automatically speaks it but she spoken in french in interviews before. I don't see someone lying about knowing languages but I guess they could, but as for a fact she's spoken in both in interviews, and her friends and people who work with her say she speaks both languages I'd say that's a pretty good indicator.

Also I didn't say at all that since she had those backgrounds she knew all those languages...show me where I did. Because I didn't, I was simply answering an earlier question as to what background did she have.

I have to agree with you.. No offence to Adriana, but I highly doubt that she is truly fluent in French or Italian. In my opinion, she is hardly fluent in English to begin with.

To me, being fluent in a language = mastering it as though it were your mother tongue. Funny how people, mostly those who only speak one language, pretend to speak another language, just when they can have a daily conversation in that language

Anyway, lovely shots from Spain Vogue. The cover is a stunner!

Eh, to each their own. Believe what you want to believe, but I think I'm going to have to go with the people that work with her, friends and family, and interviews I've seen where she can speak both. ( I consider fluently, reading and writing the language, basically being able to speak with it like your mother language, which is what I do with the ones I speak) Also, she speaks English considerably well, her problem tends to be she tends to try and speak with more impressive words compared to Ale, or whomever. Eh, something I've noticed over the years. Heck she even taught Ale English. I'm not going to argue over somebody being able to speak a language or not, her knowing how to or not...is like arguing if someone on the street can...it makes no difference who she is. Eh, everyone has an opinion. I'm just going with the knowledge I've had of being a fan of her's for ten years, and what people who know her can confirm. To each their own :)

Yes. Thank you. People often have misconceptions about what "fluency" really means.
Being able to answer questions in interviews isn't that hard. Most models that spend their early years in Milan and Paris can do so, such as Isabelli.
But they cant read, write, compose essays gramatically correct, and so on. They can only do the everyday speech, and this is not considered being fluent.
And Adriana just recently improved her english, which was terrible for quite some time. So, in CoutureChic's words, if she is answering a question in an interview in a particular language, this means she is fluent??
Well, untill recently I couldn't understand a word of Adriana's speech in english even though she's been doing VS for what...almost 10 years?

Like I said, I speak several languages, have studied them can read, write and speak in all of them. I am fully aware of what fluency in a language means. I'm fully aware that being able to answer questions in an interview in only part of learning and being able to consider yourself, or someone fluent in a language. Also I didn't say if she just answered a question she as fluent, knowing languages myself I would never consider that. From what I have learned through family and friends, and people who she works with she does know them fluently, reading, speaking and writing. Now, could the several people who have said this be wrong, sure, it's always a possibility but I doubt all of them would agree to do so to make someone look better.
Also Adriana does tend to have a strong Bahian Accent, which is usually spoken a bit slower, it's kind of like a Southern Accent in a America...it's just where you come from. That is about the only thing that makes her English "worse" than some other models, but IMO just because you can't 100% make out what someone because of an accent, but yet they are speaking the language "correctly" there isn't anything wrong with them. Heck here in America there are people who are born here who you can't understand, but are you going to say they can't speak English? Of Course not. Heck I've been in America for several years, and I still have a very very strong accent. It doesn't mean I don't speak English well, write it well, or etc. Also if you've ever had to learn English, it's one of the most difficult languages to learn, along with Chinese and a few others, simply because English is so unique. But again, I'm not going to argue over whether someone can speak a language, I guess I don't see why it's so difficult to believe a model can...heck at the end of the day she's just a regular person. :D

Hahahahhaa RELAX YOURSELF girl! You practically wrote an essay!

Well, this isnt the place to ask each other who speaks what, we were talking about Adriana...

And Yes, English isnt my native language and I have learned it. And its the EASIEST language on earth to learn. My native language is harder than english, along with french, russian, italian, swedish, and german. And I do speak those fluently.

Should I scan my diplomas and certificates and post them here?? :))))

Good for you! As for myself, English was very hard for me. Eventually, I did get it down. But I've heard from other people English can be one of the most difficult to learn, good for you if it wasn't :) I've always been interested in other languages, and come from a very diverse family so that's how I learned most of the languages I know. Along with the few I did study in school the old fashioned way. I think some languages can be easy for some to learn and hard for others. :)

Its possible . I cant tell. I learned mine from books. But its great you come from a diverese family :) Not everyone is that lucky!

well I think that she speaks so much better now in English, I can understand everything she says and the words just roll out easily, I was so impressed in her Russell James live streaming. I think Alessandra has the biggest problem with the language still, she has a very strong accent and you can see her struggling even when she reads from the teleprompter..and we're getting really off topic!:D

I see what you mean by Ale strugglin' to read (from the teleprompter).
I've also never really noticed that she blinks a lot.
