Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles in 1979. She was raised by her grand- mother in a small apartment in the suburb of Los Feliz. Her nomadic upbringing saw her splitting her time between Florida, California, and Switzerland without truly settling down long enough for a formal education.

Self-taught photographer Alex Prager has been widely exhibited since 2001, in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, London and Miami. Born and still based in the City of Angels, though splitting her childhood between Florida, California and Switzerland, she came to photography through the work of William Eggleston; her pictures too showing eye-popping saturated colour, narratives broken and snatched moments in time. Having contributed to publications including Details, i-D and Elle Japan, Prager won the London Photographic Award in 2006, with her first, 2007 solo show earning front page status of the LA Times’ Arts and Entertainment section.

NOWNESS.com presents:
Alex Prager's "Despair" featuring Bryce Dallas Howard

From nowness.com via thephotographypost.com:

Photographer Alex Prager Turns Director With This 50s Chiller
The setting: 1960s Los Angeles. Inside a phone booth stands a beautiful woman wearing the portentous femme fatale uniform of red lipstick and high heels. Bright and eerie, it’s picture-perfection. In her first short film, LA-based photographer Alex Prager is going for pure, cinematic melodrama, hoping to catch just one emotion—despair—through her chilling juxtaposition of dreamy Americana aesthetics and back-story brimming with overstated tragedy. Set to a score by composer Ali Helnwein and starring model and actress Bryce Dallas Howard, the film takes its cues from the opening of Charles Laughton’s Night of the Hunter (1955), and the Hans Christian Andersen-inspired 1948 ballet The Red Shoes. According to Prager, Despair was conceived as a living, full-sensory version of her photographic work, which has previously been exhibited at M+B Gallery in Los Angeles, Yancey Richardson in New York and Michael Hoppen in London.

“I’d like to show the before, now and after of one of my images––that’s really the concept of the film,” she says. Accustomed to running a one-woman show on her shoots, where she usually plays photographer, stylist, set-designer and everything in between, Prager was ensnared by the collaborative nature of creating a film. “It’s like taking every art medium and melding it into one,” she says. “It’s incredible!” As for working with Howard, a fast-rising talent (and the daughter of director Ron Howard) best known for her performances in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village and Lady in the Water, Prager credits fate for bringing them together. She knew it could be no one but the fair-skinned beauty after deciding the role called for a redhead with serious acting chops. Howard’s graceful, porcelain-like look seems to embody one of Prager’s defining characteristics as an artist—her unabashed love for, and understanding of, color.

As for suspense: one of the stills from the four-minute film is headed to the prestiguous MoMA this September for the group show New Photography 2010, where Prager is exhibiting alongside Elad Lassry, Roe Ethridge and Amanda Ross-Ho. Film stills from Despair are currently being exhibited and sold exclusively by Michael Hoppen Contemporary in London.

Wow this thread is new :D discovered -her through the Bottega Veneta preview (which echoes the pic in the first post :D). Googled her and it looks like she is not a full time fashion photographer but I'd love to see more of her works in fashion

Supermodel Lara Stone in Photo Shoot with Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster
The SL Roadster featured in the Mercedes-Benz Icon of Style campaign, combines technical innovation with sportiness and luxury

22 December 2011 | JDavis

MBUSA announced their 2012 Fashion Collaboration that combines the new SL Roadster with supermodel Lara Stone in Calvin Klein Collection and photographed by Alex Prager. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Icons of Style images by Alex Prager can be described as:

“A beautiful woman stands alone in the desert, suitcases in hand. Yet in this 21st century update on classic Film Noir, the blonde is her own getaway driver, outpacing a tornado in a sleek SL Roadster by Mercedes-Benz.”

Alex Prager, an American photographer and filmmaker, is most well-known for her ability to crate surreal and enigmatic movie moments that are inspired by Frederico Fellini and David Lynch. Yet in her versions – heady with mystery, lust and desire – the woman is in control. Of her enigmatic images for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Icons of Style, Alex Prager said she chose cinematic greats as her Icons of Style. “I constantly reference Fellini characters and Hitchcock as well,” said Prager.

Dutch supermodel, Lara Stone plays the update on the Hitchcock blonde, a strong protagonist who overcomes loneliness and fear. This inner strength is underscored by a timeless and elegant dress worn by Lara Stone and designed by Calvin Klein Collection’s Women’s Creative Director, Francisco Costa.

The SL Roadster featured in the latest Mercedes-Benz Icon of Style campaign, combines technical innovation with sleek sportiness and classic luxury and reinterprets the legendary Mercedes-Benz classic of the 1950s for today.

Lara Stone commented, “It’s an honor to work with Mercedes-Benz on a project like this. Both Mercedes-Benz and Calvin Klein Collection brands represent great luxury and timeless elegance and it was a really unique experience.”

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Collaboration, Icons of Style, is making its US debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2012 from February 9-15, 2012.

The 2012 Icons of Style key visual is the latest in a stunning series of outstanding visuals celebrating the unique combination of design and style that is Mercedes-Benz. Nick Knight has posed Julia Stegner in Gareth Pugh with the SLS AMG; Miles Aldridge photographed Milla Jovovich wearing a spectacular hat from Philip Treacy next to the Mercedes E-Class Convertible; Craig McDean and David James staged Karolina Kurkova next to the new CLS and last season, Terry Richardson captured Jessica Stam on the roof of the A-Class concept car.
