Alexa Chung

^Wow, thanks Diamonsea! i was really curious about this bag since back when i first saw it, thought it was an Urban Outfitters bag! Peaches Geldof was sporting it too. It is truly gorgeous to me.

That bag is slightly tacky and the coat is terrible. I kinda dig the dress though.

i think that whole documentary loses its purpose when the presenter is a highstreet shopper herself.

I completely disagree. I think it would be much easier to stomach a documentary made by someone who understands the attraction of the high steet, as opposed to some preachy, ethical-only goddess. I'm sure the programme will make reference to the fact that Alexa (like almost everyone) shops on the high street. You should at least wait until you've seen it before criticising, you don't know what angle the subject will be approached from yet. Also, I don't think I've ever seen Alexa wear anything from Primark.

^well said. theres nothing worse than some "holier than thou" celebrity preaching to us.

i agree, and even if she did purchase clothes from high-street labels, clearly she's trying to make up for it. it's not like she's denied shopping at topshop/h&m/etc, she's just getting the facts straight =)

with all though respect , making a documentary about workconditions is hardly of her making it up for shopping at chains like these:doh::blink:because she continous to buy there...:innocent:(yes im aware she doesnt wear primark , but primark isnt the only chain that works this way:doh:):flower:

Yes, other high street chains are unethical, but Primark is the worst offender. Apart from the workers' conditions etc., Primark's exteme "budget" approach drives prices down across other high street stores too.

Other high street chains do make (token) efforts to be more ethical eg. Fairtrade ranges.

I agree that it is simplistic to say that the documentary "makes up" for Alexa's high street purchases. However, I also think it is simplistic (and overly cynical) to suggest that Alexa is not in a position to make an ethical fashion documentary because she wears Topshop clothes. I'm no expert, but boycotting high street chains is not the answer to the problem.

Boycotting products made in Bangladesh – or China or any other of the countries known for low-cost garment manufacture – would endanger entire communities. Instead, McRae (Simon McRae, senior campaigns officer at War On Want) advises, consumers should write to the Government demanding legislation to ensure better working conditions and to the chains themselves. "Tell them what you paid for a garment," he says. "And then ask them how much the woman who made it was paid."

at the end of the day, it doesnt matter who presents it and who makes us aware of the fact that cheap clothes come from poor countries...we'll still gonna buy them anyway
