Alexa Chung

omg i agree so much it's ridiculous it wasn't alexa's fault it was just that kind of show didn't work and that's the end of it!

oh i love her makeup in 2676!
but ugh i'm really sick of hearing about how american audiences were just too dim or whatever to "understand" her humor on the show.. i didn't really see any "dry british humor" in any of the episodes i saw either..it just wasn't funny to me, nothing to do with my nationality, everything to do with the poor writing/delivery/interview skills. yeah anyway not the most flattering article imo

Yeah the "oh you stupid Americans" bit has gotten more than a little stale. It's been what? close to almost a year since that show and they still won't let it drop. I honestly think it's because Alexa doesn't really do that much asides from dress well and show up at events, there's not much substance there to write about I suppose.

Yeah, I never got this whole idea that Americans don't get dry/black humour...and I'm English! Have they never seen shows like Six Feet Under?

I've seen all of her shows and she hardly ever cracked this "dry British humour". (And yes, I get British humour. I love Stephen Merchant, Catherine Tate, Stephen Fry, Little Britain, Jennifer Saunders, etc.) She may have had the urge to crack those jokes, but she never did follow through. Like I said before, her show didn't work because they cut it from 1 hour to 30 minutes, which means rushed interviews. And MTV moved the show to probably the worst time slot ever.
And it's not like her co-workers at MTV didn't get it, because they obviously get her sense of humor and even mess with her, as seen here.

^ I agree, I never heard any of the infamous British humour, she was even too (American) polite to the guests, meaning there was too little sarcasm considering the fruitful soil of instant, young and naive American A-listers. So the humour clearly isn't the reason...

And I didn't find that interview interesting at all to be honest. The Panic At The Disco incident was the cool incident from way back when, but since then she's been quite going with the flow...
And as much as I love her, all that I-hate-hipsters attitude is really unconvincing when I see a photo of her with that retro camera (and saying how she's really into photography - isn't everyone?); living in Williamsburg, hanging out with the Geldofs.
She's got to do something cooler that that to make me adore her again... Go to college or something.

Exactly. Chloe Sevigny also has the same problem. She refuses to believe she's a hipster.
I also couldn't stand it when Alexa said she didn't have any friends in nyc, because she couldn't stand douchebags. Which is quite funny if you look at her British camaraderie of friends. And if you can't tolerate douchebags why move to the biggest hipster conclave of the US, and possibly the world? And to also add to her anti-hipster attitude. Alexa, you appear on the cobrasnake, which is basically the historical vault for hipsterdom!:yuk:

I would also like to see Alexa do more. Possibly a jab at serious journalism? She did say that she would like to host a chat show and talk about books. :woot:Don't get me wrong fashion is great, but how long can a person really keep their status in fashion? Even Kate Moss's fashion popularity is subsiding.

^ That hair at (I think it was) Louis Vuitton in Paris is......well..awful.

She looks so much better with a fringe. Glad she cut one again. Now, she just needs to take a few inches off the rest of it...

And yes, I agree - she's a total hipster. Who's she kidding? Really, when you think about it, there's absolutely nothing original or individual about it, either.

I REALLY don't think she's a hipster! Hipsters are totally insincere poseurs. Alexa's problem seems to be that she's too sincere, too honest, and basically takes herself far too seriously. But I think that she's absolutely terrified of appearing smug hence the 'I'm-just-like-everyone-else' and 'oh-how-I-hate-attention' bs.

yeah, sure she's a hipster. but doesn't every hipster deny that he/she is a hipster? that's what hipsters do right?

besides.. she looks nice (although lately, not so much) and she's funny and has a great taste of music and adorable boyfriend. sooooo. what's there not to like?

I think she looked her best on that Vanity Lair TV show, where the infamous AA pocket skirt became popular, the dark bob and all the smock dresses was her best.
