Alexa Chung

I was at that opening and she was wearing Marni in case anyone is interested.

She was also really unapproachable. I just got back from a Mulberry dinner and she only spoke to her management and didn't make any effort to mingle with regional press which includes Japanese vogue. She was constantly on her blackberry and took loads of pics on her personal blackberry but refused to pose for a picture for wwd. She also didn't touch any of her dinner, smoked lots and drank a lot.

I like the bow dress, it doesn't fit her well, but it's a cute dress. And Alexa is the only girl I have seen pull off the socks and shoes combo *hehe*

I like those marni shoes a lot. The outfit however is not particularly complementary nor are the candid photos.

^ me either :(

My thoughts exactly. She needs it hemmed or something and maybe a touch tighter? It's a little too loose on her petite frame. LOVE the design of the dress though!

she looks so beautiful in the photos above. now she just looks like a ratty dog most of the time. :(

Agreed.

And I also love that no matter how many of these reports/encounters we hear about, everyone's always surprised about Alexa's attitude... :ninja:

Lots of fashion writers and bloggers had very pleasant encounters with Alexa at the recent Fashion Weeks. I think we are all guilty of picking and choosing what stories to believe :innocent:

ALEXA CHUNG'S Today I'm Wearing blog for VOGUE.COM has certainly had an impact on the fashion buying public, that's according to eBay who has watched the rise and rise of the Vogue cover girl's favourite clothing and accessories over the past few weeks.

After Alexa sported denim in the March issue of Vogue, whilst detailing her love for the fabric, eBay observed a sudden hike in the pieces she wore. Dungarees, which Alexa wore with just a necklace, saw sales increase by 75 per cent in the days after the issue went on sale - and denim shorts, of which Alexa admitted she owned 10 pairs, saw sales jump 277 per cent on the auction site almost overnight.

Clogs - similar to the Chanel ones Alexa wears on the Vogue cover and subsequently wore to the Chanel show - saw a similar sales hike, by just under 200 per cent, according to eBay. Mulberry also reported feeling the benefits of the "Alexa effect" earlier this year (read the full story here), thanks to the launch of Alexa's namesake bag, which the presenter has been carrying.

"It seems that whatever Alexa wears, we want to wear," eBay spokesperson Julia Hutton-Potts told VOGUE.COM. "She is regularly the number one searched-for name on eBay because her style is so influential. As soon as she steps out in her latest look, shoppers flock to eBay to snap up replica items."

I hate these types of stories. Are there really people who buy denim shorts just because a celebrity likes them?!

I agree, although these articles are obviously self serving. The fashion industry/houses have endorsed alexa - she is a commodity. It pays - literally - to keep on giving her press attention and focus.

The brands send her the stuff she wears them, gets photographed, column inches and praise for being ahead of the game and thus a trend session and icon. This is perhaps why some believe that alexa has lost her edge.

I know celebrities chose to publicise themselves, rahrahrah, but I think to an extent it must get really quite annoying, so you can't blame her too much. Especially when she's front row at some fashion shows, it just looks quite uncomfortable having a camera thrust in your face.
But that's celebrity culture I suppose.

True. I met her at the Mulberry party, and whilst she wasn't ridiculously friendly, she obliged to pose for photographs for anyone who asked, even suggesting moving somewhere for better light etc.
Although she was always smoking and asking if she could finish her cigarette before any photos were taken..!
I've always found her approachable, unlike Pixie Geldof who was rude to my friend when she asked for a picture..

This is just creepy. Sounds like she wasn't given a lot of space (sounds like she was observed *constantly*) so no wonder she shrunk back a bit. God. :innocent:
