Alexander Wang F/W 12.13 New York

Yup. That remains my main issue with his collections.. he definitely knows where to look for inspiration but the result is always rather cheap and amateurish. I feel like it's a passion vs. talent kind of thing.

Couldn't agree more. To me, Wang will aways be a wannabe Helmut Lang with his edgy-urban girl, but his collections lack some sort of precision, it all looks like one big pile of interesting ideas but in the hands of someone who doesn't quite have the skills to accomplish it. He's still very young, maybe with time he'll grow as a designer.

I know it's cool to hate Alexander Wang on TFS, but this collection and his Spring 2012 collection have really won me over. He seems to be hitting his stride.

I agree, its an amazing collection...

Here comes the Hate, it's always the same comments over and over again.... It's tired already.

i like it, i think its a more mature collection

I tried so hard to like something in this collection but.. just no >.<

Great show, not so great clothes. The whole vibe felt so restricted and almost uncomfortable.

I have to say this wasn't as conceptual as I would've liked.

The thing with Alexander Wang is he has mastered making his collections appear directional and editorial on the runway but also wearable pieces individually in stores. It's a tricky thing and superb styling is required. You may or may not like him but you got to hand it to him he designs smart.

The clothes aren't bad, I like a lot of these pieces. But it doesn't have a lot of push to it, it's nothing groundbreaking. The coats are quite beautiful, but take away that presentation and the supermodels and this is just a 'good' collection. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't think that the second part was that necessary, seemed more like trying too hard to impress.

I like few pieces, especially the leather ones, plus the soundtrack was amazing as always.

it's the first collection by him that actually left an impression on me. last season was awful, but he clearly put more effort into this one. the bags are really amazing too

Everything about this felt so incredibly "try hard", including the clothes themselves. Even if I haven't liked a particular Wang collection in the past, I never felt as if he was trying to be someone else and with his attempt to take on the "dark side" I felt as if he was channeling a lot of the goth designers (who I need not name as we are all familiar with them). As a result, he failed miserably, because the clothes are not nearly as interesting as the famous ones are -- no signatures of his own, no interesting cuts or fabrics, etc. I think this is his worst collection yet.

I'm not seeing any "gothic" in this collection. It's far too modern. Black doesn't always equal Goth.

I didn't call it gothic, I called it dark. I said he was channeling from the famous gothic designers -- I see a lot of Margiela (post-Margiela) and Yohji in particular.

He tries way too hard. His collections are always so embarassing, this included. Almost enough to make me feel sorry for him.
