hmmm expect the recent DKNY major image shake up
to extend to all DK company departments pretty soon
LVMH will make the most out of the total control deal,
no wonder they played the label relatively quiet until now

LVMH now owns all but two per cent of Donna Karan International. Bernard Arnault's luxury conglomerate paid Karan £24.4 million during the first quarter of this year to up its stake in the US-based fashion house from 89 per cent. "When Donna Karan International was sold to LVMH in 2001, I retained an equity interest in the company," Karan told Women's Wear Daily. The original agreement provided that I would have the opportunity to sell a portion of my ownership back to LVMH, which I did in January 2004. I still hold a meaningful equity investment in DKI and am extremely excited about DKI's future and my role as DKI's creative director." Three years ago Karan and her husband Stephan Weiss, who died in June 2001, struck a £359 million deal with LVMH for DKI and Gabrielle Studio Inc, the licensor of its trademarks. (May 7 2004, AM)
