January 25, 2007 – The influence of Louise Brooks—the actress whose iconic jet-black bob has recently inspired innumerable model copycats—extended below the shoulders on the spring runways. The sporty white togs at Anteprima and Chanel looked ready for the tennis court—grass, of course. Elsewhere, the focus was on after-dark: Swingy flapper frocks danced down the catwalks at Doo.Ri and Emanuel Ungaro, while Ralph Lauren layered shimmering, drop-waist dresses over sleeveless ribbed tees. Putting their own twist on the trend, Rag & Bone's Marcus Wainwright and David Neville adapted the natty, all-American style of novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald for gender-bending girl Gatsbys with their full-legged, baby-pink suit.
