lets be honest, Donatella & Santo simply destroyed the Versace label, lets hope that Allegra will manage better than her 'un-stylish' mom :P
i never liked all this tacky over-the-top prints and colour...imo the girls look like drag queens...maybe it has something to do with the fact that i'm southern italian...but this is just such a sterotype/caricature of what a woman from naples (versace's hometown) looks like...it's what all the more subdued northern italians make fun of...

i much prefer dolce and gabanna's sicilian widow/sophia lauren look if we're going to talk italian sterotypes...

so i don't know if donatella made it worse because imo it was already pretty bad... :innocent:
how about that ugly gold medusa head logo that's on everything?... :yuk: gianni designed that...

 of course it was already 'bad' even before Donatella,
i know what you mean by
sterotype/caricature of what a woman from naples (versace's hometown) looks like...

still, Gianni was able to create & promote this kind of image, making money out of this, by keeping a fine line of kitchy 'chic' and celebrity glam, keeping his clients happy.
Donatella failed in pleasing the Versace girl, by playing 'extreme bad taste' or on the boreders with 'good taste' but without providing the Gianni 'fireworks'...hence the 'rise' of Roberto Cavalli in dressing up the 'rich-b*tch' client.

Personally i was never a Versace fan, but i still believe Gianni 'did' it better (for what his clients needs were) c'est tout :P

you know...there was actually a moment there after gianni died that i thought it got a bit better...a bit more punk/rock n roll...the way versus used to be when donatella was just in charge of that...and then i think her ego just got the better of her... ...

i like this direction much better...

you are absolutely right softgrey, Donatella tried to change the Versace recipe,
somehow she was walking on a thin rope between complete trash and cleaner 'modernisms', trying to take the look a step further than Gianni.... but point is ended up losing the Versace client who by now ....dresses head to toe to Cavalli.

Tom Ford also took away a good part of the Versace clientelle during his Gucci days :ninja:

i know lena...cavalli has really come on strong in the past 5 years or so...i really don't like his style at all...but even i have to admit that the past few seasons have had some strong pieces here and there...

i agree about gucci...and also think that what galliano is doing at dior has put a dent in versace's sales...

too many people doing the same thing...

absolutely.. truth is that when Gianni was around he was the only one for this 'kind' of 'ladies'.. now its an all over the place style

(hope not for long though :P )
