It doesn't look like regular watercolor or aquarelpaint. Do you know what it is? I wish I could get the same effect. It's what appeals me to her illustrations (plus the often black basis)

Well, yes. But how do you get the orangie border? Is there a special fluid that detracts certain colors?

I think the effect is a marker that has dried and got wet. I learned this today as I realized some Sharpie work I did bled all over another piece I was working on! Sharpies aren't really black, they have all kinds of colors in them.

these are really pretty! it does just look like watercolor to me...do you guys think it might be digital? i think fourboltmain is right though - and it also looks like a lot of other mixed media...other pens and paints, maybe.

It could be digital. The ones with the cool bleeds are far too sharp on the bleed to not run into the clean line art. So either she cut out the clean parts and pasted them on top of some bled ink, or she photoshopped the ink around the line art.

As far as the ink splatter one goes (middle, post #2), I used to mask off what I drew with low tack tape and then used a toothbrush dipped in ink to shoot it on. You drag a toothpick across the top and sort of aim it at the paper. Takes a while to get the hang of it, don't wear anything nice!

I'm now thinking of doing the next runway illustration in this style, just to see if I can pull it off.
