January 22, 2007 -- IF Emily Blunt deserves an Oscar for her portrayal of the hardworking, overly stressed assistant to the editor-in-chief of a top fashion magazine in "The Devil Wears Prada," as some critics have said, imagine what the real-life assistants to Anna Wintour deserve - maybe Nobel Peace Prizes? A staffer at The Post received a frantic call from Wintour's office the other morning. The young woman was near hysteria, asking how she could print out this newspaper's entire online edition. After walking the Wintour underling through the steps, our colleague asked her, "Is she really that difficult?" "I can't talk now. I'm too busy," she replied and rang off

Maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't it have been as easy as selecting "File" and Print? (I do have to wonder about this though, as Wintour is in Paris for the couture shows, but...:innocent: )

Well unless the NY Post is easy to get in Paris ( I don't know myself) I can't see why this is such a rediculous request on Wintour's part.

I think all of the stories online are in totally different sections and not available in one package.

I know...I don't think this is really news-worthy  I'd be surprised if I could get my hands on a NY Post where I live.

i've had bosses make me do worse things than that...

and honestly, i wouldn't mind being wintour's assistant.

is this really news? Does anyone really care?! I'm sure if Wintour wanted she could get a pdf version emailed to her.

I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about.

It's not like Wintour is worth it.

I am an assistant.. and I could totally feel her pain, so I guess I do care... Just wish My horror story made it into the papers..

When i was "assistant editor/fashion assistant" to a men's magazine (free work experience) for just over a month here, they made me do some ridiculous things, the editor in chief of the time, asked for some ridiculous demands: "There's this green watch from some Swiss company, I want to know the price of."

What made me leave immediately was his request to make me stay longer hours one day, when I asked if I could leave early due to a migraine, I'd been throwing up in the toilet and sweating, and he said it was fine, then he turned around and said "Could you possibly stay to pack the LV clothes away" I looked him in the face and steadily said no.

Unless they were willing to pay for the clothes I'd throw up on. But in all honesty, after that he helped me out with some contacts from some major newpapers to help me establish myself as a journalist (which I'm sort of deciding whether to do... or not, perhaps as a hobby) so in a way my hard work paid off... and he didn't hate me for telling him i wasn't staying back when i was sick.

So... if Anna is anythign like that, I'm sure I can handle it.

Sometimes these stories and movies shock me because when I used to work at Elle I never once noticed an over demanding or rude person. Some of them were a bit snob but nonetheless pleasant to work with.

Nice to know some magazines are ok to work for!
