I did a search and couldn't find any topics on him, so I thought I was post a few of his pieces. I've always found his style inspiring.

Ashley Wood (born 1971) is an Australiancomic book artist and illustrator who is probably best known for his atmospheric cover art. Wood generally works in mixed media, often combining oil painting with digital artmaking. His style contains elements of Expressionism, and Bill Sienkiewicz is a notable influence.
Wood first broke into the comics mainstream creating cover art for the various Spawn properties of Todd McFarlane. He eventually tried his hand at interior artwork with the launch of Hellspawn. More recently, he has been pursuing projects with IDW Publishing. In October 2005 IDW plans to release the first issue of Doomed, a horror anthology comic and homage to the classic horror anthology titles of EC Comics, Warren Publishing, and others. Wood will be the art director of Doomed as well as a contributing artist.
Wood currently lives in Perth, Australia with his wife and two sons.

thanks for the thread, cosette.
it's funny because i came across his site some time ago and saved some of the images thinking of starting a thread... but i never knew if i really liked his work...
i think there's a great potential and i like the dark undertones (or over :P) but something about it looks cheap to me?
or maybe it's more the way in which he presents his work? i'm not sure, i'd like to hear other's thoughts....

Hey, this guy is sick. Thanks for sharing this with us. His style kind of reminds me of Sam Kieth, the did the first Maxx series for Image Comics (am I that much of a geek?). Man, this guy is one of those people that makes you want to burn your brushes...

anna, I did the same thing a while ago, except that it wasn't that I was unsure, I actually didn't like his work at all. I found his pieces almost polluted in a sense. My interests and style have turned around though evidently, because when I came across his site again the other day, I found them really edgy and cool looking. I'd still use the word polluted, but in a more positive sense...

I think my favourite is that image from Lore ... so much movement.

Also... I was reminded a bit of Sam Keith's work as well! Although I think Keith's seem to be a lot stronger and more intensely styled, whereas I'd say Wood's intensity comes from the emotions his pieces evoke...

Coming off of his run on Hellspawn, the always arrogant Ashley Wood is hard at work on Process 26. Process 26, according to Wood, is "an attempt at creating something happier than my earlier works. I'm tired of scratches and Photoshop and really feel that these new crayon illustrations are my new look for the future."

I think this is my favourite piece I've seen by him...
