this is not how australians dress. melbourne is considered a our fashion capital. it is more refined and stylish than these pictures. this is not the average aussie. these are the crazy ones.

I'm happy that this thread is starting to get a bit more style to it. I have to say one huge trend i've noticed in Melbourne is the whole fifties style dressing. I don't have any pics to post though

Where do they find these people?!? As a Melburnian this thread annoys me because the photos aren't what I would call representative of the style in Melbourne (probably because most people just wear black day in day out, and all-black outfits are probably boring and uninspiring for photos). I work in the CBD every day and indulge in the rather pretentious bar culture that breeds some of these people and I don't really see that many people trying to be outrageous with their style, unless it's one of the local loonies, and at least they have an excuse.

To me, most (not all!) of the photos in this thread show a really contrived and pretentious look. They're not any better stylistically than those who slavishly follow the latest trends head to toe- and anti-trend is a trend in itself anyway, so just who these scenesters are trying to impress (or fool) is beyond me. "Fabulous nobodies" indeed.
