Australian Street Style

i really think stores like sportsgirl, witchery, portmans etc. are australia's answer to stores like zara, topshop, h&m etc. it's just that australia is like some seasons behind the rest of the world so the trends that these aussie stores produce will of course be different from the uk.

ahh i can assure we are not behind. if anything we are ahead. for the people that know where to go.

I think it's a mix. There are some 'chain store looks' that work really well in Sydney and are in all the stores, yet it's hard to find overseas, and vice versa. I have to admit I probably like shopping and fashion overseas more though...

Anyway came across some Street Style pics during Australian Fashion Week from harpersbazaar.com.au :

I probably like the last one the most.

Love all the photos in the last few pages.

They remind me of seeing all the fashion design students here at my uni.

hmm never did like the high-waisted look and I still can't get around it

and why am i still getting stares when I carry my more than a few season's old miss marc's tote....sigh

^^^ Try being in Brisbane and daring to wear  brightly coloured lipstick! During the day time! Sigh.

Yeah that's what I love about going to the city for uni (Sydney CBD) - you can wear whatever you like! I live in the suburbs and the style is beach bum/bogan, and not in a fashionably stylish way either.

well luckily i have this whatever attitude that goes with it, or i would have crumbled from the stares years ago...

wear that brightly coloured lipstick GannetGuts and go pout in their faces!!!!!

and actually annettella I do go to the city for uni and live in Darlinghurst, and I don't believe Im getting by with wearing whatever I like haha...and so feeling you on the not fashionably stylish thing on the beaches too...ho hum...

Good for you!

And I totally do. If I'm feeling feisty, they get a raised eyebrow and a "Yes?" but most times they're ignored. :D

Yeah, it's the attitude that's important!! Gannetguts and bigb3n, those stares are probably because they've never seen someone look that hot before :P

Although maybe because no one from my area ever goes to the city (figured out which beach bum/bogan area I come from yet? Hahaha) I know I'll never see half the people around there again and can wear what I like.

I've been living in NYC for a year now, and I absoloutely agree 100% with everything you said. zara, topshop,h&m ahhh please our clothes are much better quality, better variety and better valued.

I agree. There's always going to be the big chainstores driving the trends. Although, while the mainstream is VERY VERY safe, we have got a lot of local designers doing great things, especially from a street/casualwear perspective.

I think I have a love/hate relationship sometimes with Australian fashion... as I have found when speaking to many people in industry...

These are from the Surrey Hills Markets in Sydney

All the photo's are from Jess at www.anewmuse.net
