oops my bad I couldn't find any matches when searching for "oscars" and sienna but academy awards delivered pretty well lol. I see nothing wrong with it I love a lil variety at the oscars. I prefer it when the stars let their own style shine through instead of wearing the typical prom dress satin type dresses.
I like it when celebs let their own style shine through also, variety is great. But I often see things that just aren't right for the event (over dredd/underdressed/ just not right for the person wearing them) Here's an example of what I mean:
This is Emmy Rossum at the 2004 Oscars:
The dress is different from the stardard Oscar fare, but it's too old for her. It doesn't llok right on a young girl. Also I think the length is a bit awkward it just doesn't suit her or the event.

admittadly it's more of your standard "prom-style" Oscar gown, but it's also more flattering and age-appropriate. She looks like she's going to the Oscars, not her Grandmother's 75th Birthday party.
I do give celebs credit for going against the grain (especuially at a huge event like the Oscars). But if you're going to be different, do it right, IMO. For example, one of my fave Oscar looks (and award show looks in general) is Claire Danes at the 1997 Oscars:
She stands apart from the huge ballgowns and such, but her look is still flattering, age appropriate, and elegant-she's not oversdressed or underdressed.
