They do that to make their eyes appear bigger and brighter. Many Asians are born with single eyelids, and many go for surgery to get double eyelids that are taken for granted by so many Caucasians.

approximately 50% of asians are born with single lids while other half are born with double lids.

people who do get blepharopalsty claim that it's due to medical reasons--their eyelashes poke the eyes, since asians have non-curling, straight lashes. but contrary to popular belief, many asians are born with double lids.

and some with doublids, i would say very small percentage, get the corners of their eyes cut to widen their eyes. i've seen this amongst many celebrities, and some of my japanese friends told me this, too. but many people mistakenly believe that they do this to look more like the occidental eyes. not true.

i say we all should just be happy with how we are born--double lids or not.

Anyway, Ayumi is cute, but there's something about her that's a little off to me. I was always a bigger fan of Namie Amuro and Hikaru Utada. But saying that, my JPOP days are looonnnngg gone.

I have to say that she doesn't really have a distict style. It really just looks like her stylists pulled random things and had her wear them. it's hard to discuss style when there aren't any candids. There isn't any real consistency to her performance style.

While I agree with some that she can be really pretty, I also agree with others that she at times looks a bit fake (maybe the nails...).

You seem to be really adamant about the fact that she has great personal style. Do you have any candid pics of her? The pics you posted show Ayumi in a variety of contexts and looks but almost all (if not ALL) of them seem to be magazine/published pics... basically a situation that can have (usually has?) a stylist on hand. The other "Star Style" threads usually include at least a few candids that help to show what the actual star dresses like, not just what a magazine layout projects.

yes, i'm looking for candids of ayumi but there doesn't seem to many around of asian celebrities...its not the same with the american celebrities where there are paparazzis at every corner..maybe this happens with the asian celebrities too, but i dont see too many published candids...can somebody help me please? i will post ones i can find

According to this article, 50% of Asians and 75% of Koreans are born without an eyelid crease. I've seen alot of Japanese girls with big eyes but without an eyelid crease (that's not to say that ALL Japanese girls with eyelid crease have had surgery). To me, Ayumi has had work done... and not just on her eyes. Her nose looks alot thinner imo.

^^ why isn't it relevant? It pertains to the change in appearance and style from her younger days to now. I do think she's cute but fake.
