Teri Hatcher has a new gig — albeit a modeling one for Badgley Mischka's fall advertising campaign.

During a telephone interview Tuesday, while filling up the gas tank of her 1978 VW bus en route to a camping getaway with her daughter, Emerson, and dog, Hatcher said she approached the campaign not as a model, but like the many multitasking women who don't make much room for themselves but would privately like a little glamour in their lives.

"This is not just about couture. It is how every woman deserves to feel beautiful," she said.

Photographer Ellen Von Unwerth only had one day to get the job done and the "Desperate Housewives" star delivered, "camping it up for the camera," according to Mark Badgley and James Mischka. Hatcher donned six different outfits — from a black lamé ruched evening gown with spaghetti straps to a silk satin polkadot bra with tap pants and a garter belt — and loads of accessories.

Her print ads will appear in next month's issues of Vogue, In Style and Vanity Fair, and the images will be used for an outdoor campaign. The actress also will attend Badgley Mischka's Sept. 6 runway show at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week, one of several appearances she plans to make for the label.

But Hatcher insisted the union was not a financially driven one. "It certainly isn't about the money. Most of the decisions I make do not come from that place," she said.

The designers first dressed the actress for her red-carpet debut at the 1993 Emmys, when her career's top claim was "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman." More recently, the designers outfitted Hatcher and her daughter for Eva Longoria's wedding to Tony Parker in July.

When Hatcher showed up for last month's shoot at a rented Hollywood manse, she took the hand-painted platinum velvet dress embossed with a pale gold Baroque pattern that Badgley Mischka designed for her way back when. "It's certainly vintage for us, but it looked divine on her. It laced up the back," Badgley said. "She's always been exactly our first sample size."

Aside from shooting the upcoming season of "Desperate Housewives," Hatcher said she is developing a pilot for Lifetime based on her book, "Burnt Toast"; is working on a reality TV show, and is writing her second book. And, if Badgley Mischka winds up developing a girls' dress line due to her daughter's publicity, she said she is ready to take the credit.
