Balenciaga F/W 07.08 Paris

^That is a damn good call. I can so see those becoming the scarf of the season.

I love that there are scarves of the season now. :D

I was definitely surprised when I opened this thread because it's not the typical Balenciaga aesthetic comparing to the last few years... But I really like some of those prints - Especially that dress on Sasha in one of the first posts

I just don't like this, it's been a rough couple of seasons for Balenciaga imo.

This actually reminds me of some of his early Balenciaga collections, specifically the one where Delfine did the campaign. I'm blanking on the season.
I think that was '01 spring or fall if I'm not wrong. It was very frothy, somewhat ethereal & asymmetrical with whites & reds and I think some masculine elements.

I'm disappointed that not everyone loved this like I did :] At first, though, I must admit that I was a little taken aback by the make-up.

Aha. another thing as expected it was one of the top 10 collections according to style.com

After last season's space odyssey, Nicolas Ghesquière returned to terra firma for a show all about the global mix, in which prep-school blazers met ikat print scarf dresses, and sculpted hourglass jackets were paired with sporty track pants. Plenty of big ideas and plenty to wear, too.

report from the trunk show. :flower:

I definitely can see why so many editors chose the collection as the best: the details we can't see from the pictures are simply amazing.

Maybe the experts knew already that the fabric they used for the prints are Ikat. for the ones who didn't know, I found some definition here:

"The technique of ikat weaving is famous throughout the islands of Indonesia and is part of a long textile tradition. The cloth is made by carefully measuring out the weft threads and then binding them tightly into sections with coloured string. These are carefully colour coded to form a pattern. The threads are dyed and some of the resist removed and each exposed section is dyed in turn. Finally these patterned weft threads are woven into a plain warp on a hand operated loom. This is what gives ikat its unique shimmering effect, and is an extremely skilful and labour intensive way of making wonderful textiles."

And Nicolas Ghesquiere designed all the patterns himself (which was totally amazing to me - clearly it's more difficult than doing simple colors...

The dress Sasha wore is like $25,000. There was enormous amount of beading and truly stunning in person. I'd love to see some rich ladies wearing it. the scarf is a separate piece but they only come together.

All the jackets have Balenciaga special prints on the back lining. very cool.

The shoes are more than $1k. The balenciaga store didn't buy them so if you want them, call for special order. They are just so difficult to make I guess.

The Chinese character wasn't anything stupid as I thought. They used the sound of BA to find two ancient Chinese characters. It's essentially a logo, but in a cool way - I am still trying to figure out what one of the Character is (and I am Chinese). I guess I'll have to ask my mom whose major is Chinese literature.

The white snow jacket with fur on the hood is beautiful in person. The fur moves and it was just beautiful. It's not a very practical piece though.

the new bags are amazing...saw a style in the prefall collection and I see lots of potential of it.the new purple is wonderful as well.

What else...hmm...the pink jacket has a puff on the rear so it's cute. but it's not my color so I just passed.

all the buttons are hand painted and it also looks like an ancient process Chinese people used to make jewelry/crafts.

I'll add more if I remember. But clearly it's the best collection under Nicolas.:flower:

are you serious???!!! lol

not everyone knows the models by name. Sometimes I think this is "The model Spot" rather than "the Fashion Spot" I don't care who's displaying the clothes, but about the clothes themselves personally
