Balenciaga F/W 2008.09 Paris

I can't say I don't like this but a few things about it bother me. I definitely see what everyone is saying about the obvious Lanvin influence on a few of the pieces, namely the shapes of those patent leather dresses. The shape of those last 2 coats in post 88 are just horrible, they're not even flattering on the models! That said, it's a pretty good collection. Nothing particularly exciting about it, but all of the fall/winter shows ( for the most part ) have been pretty dull. I'm hoping McQueen will present us with something incredible.

I see one of the drapy tops and the dresses with prints must haves to me...hopefully they are affordable...:p

I'm dissapointed.. I use to adore all the outfits from Balenciaga but not this time.. So sad. I was really looking forward to something extra and it seems so boring..

Sure the cuts, the drapes, the materials are interesting but nothing I saw made gasp or squeal of excitement...

hate the slits (look good only on those lined grey miniskirts to me) and... most of the jackets feel too weird to me... the blow-up-toy-soldier jackets with ROUND shoulders make me feel a bit uncomfortable just looking at them. but yeah, its about construction, for example the one on daiane seems ok. LOVE the fantasy looks (especially the ones with camel hoofs) - cant wait to see them in HQ

soooo... quite disappointed to be honest :ermm:

I always love every Balenciaga collection. Ghesquiere takes a fresh vantage point every season but still retains his signature somewhere in there.

 I agree, Ale. I feel like I'm looking at something completely different with all the raving commentary. this is quite irrelevant to me.
The prints remind me of what Peter Pilotto's been doing for quite a while, the blurry landscapes in particular.. and it's annoying to see round shoulders making an appearance as well and helping Nicholas to look innovative when both Alber and Matthew Ames did them last winter. well.. whatever. I suppose I mainly check this to see what will become my big nightmare in editorials.. I'm just glad it's something that hopefully can be flipped over and it's humble enough to be paired up with other garments.. (though I still spot a good number of "it" and "uniform" candidates :argg:).

you hit the nail, mullet. the shapes of those jackets are exactly like the ones matthew and alber have been doing. and then the prints...peter pilotto last season...HELLO! i agree with the both of you. sorry, but this IS NOT as progressive as everybody else thinks it is. he's an artist all right....a rip-off artist.

I'm not sure how any of you can be disappointed. I think this is an unbelievably beautiful, and even wearable collection, from Balenciaga. I love the dresses at the end, I wish there would have been more of them.

I'd love to see photos of examples of these other designers that are being copied.

I see that,Balenciaga perspective to sexy chic is really striking and loveable

Sure, Nicolas keeps his job because he's creative enough to steal from Elbaz, Ames and gets away with it to all the fashion industry....the Vsengali of fashion.

Truth is, more than one designer comes up with the same pieces each and every season. That's what makes it a trend.

Certain things are always in the air. If you don't do it someone else will anyway.

It' absurd to consider top designers sitting around all day sorting through everyone else's designs for the season in search for something to copy (and get away with!).
To who? The buyers won't touch it if it's obviously someone else's design.
Now, if you do it best, that is another story.

They have more important things to get on with like creating there own griffe.

Oh My God,i actually like this collection. :bounce:
