Balmain DIY

yeah it reminded me of the red bikini you made^ .. i was wondering if you could use the same foam material :p

i dont think so, or at least it would be easier to use a pre-shaped cup. the kind of foam i used was all flat, maybe two or even three shoulder pads cut into shape or a bra cup will work better because of the sort of conic shape. or i dont know maybe im just blabbing without even tried it, anyone has already?

some close up images of the blazer from nitrolicious.com. its more heavily detailed than i thought...

i wonder if a tailor would be willing to add these embellishments to the jacket if someone provided them with beads and jewels.

It looks like some of them are little rhinestones, at the edges, in varied sizes. Then the built up pieces are bunched up or layered sequins, I have a vintage dress with similar detailing over the shoulders. That is a great close up, I think if you took it to a specialist beader they would know how to do it - that could be expensive though.

i love the jacket on beyonce i hardly like anything she wears but i have to admit she looks really good.

^the materias are pretty much cheap but if you hire someone to bead a jacket or anything like the one above it will cost you $$$$ its really hard work to bead. i believe the close ups are from netaporter.com, i never saw that kidn of detailing before.

to be honest, because it's such an ostentatious jacket, I wouldn't get the beading done by hand (if this is the style you wanted). I would buy an old marching band jacket and rip off (ie cut the stitches) of those things (don't know the word. What this beading is meant to resemble) or I would buy strips in a similar style from a fabric store.

^^ great idea for the military jacket!!!! This is such a cool thread, I'm loving it!!!

oh you mean like tassels and braid instead of the beads

i think i've seen those at fabric shops, in silver thread even

target has a 35$ go international vest that you could embellish!!!

this might be the cheapest way to go about approximating the balmain look.

thats a great look above. i actually thought the lines were silver braids, not sequins. its easy to find them on crafstores or fabric shops and they are cheap. As long as they are tubular and thick i think theyll look great and almost the same, at least from far away hehe.

get a couple of tennis balls and stitch them into the shoulders of your jacket B);)

ahaha!! thats kinda what i tried doing. i bought this 3/4 length beige blazer from H&M, the shoulder pads werent balmain enough for me so i tried putting some of my socks under the shoulders!! ahahaha  it kinda worked....until they fell out

how funny hahaha! i just pictured someone with the jacket on a crooked shoulder from the socks falling and moving haha.

would cutlets work to create the shoulder? the things you stick in your bra to make your boobs look bigger?

my sister has small ones that are very similar to the balmain shoulder shape. i think you were skilled enough, you could create a pocket of sorts on the interior of an existing blazer and sew the cutlet into the shoulder of the jacket. it's prominent, but soft at the same time...not as big and boxy as standard shoulder pads.

BTW, where do we get the studs used for the blazer? any fabric shop or is there a place online?

I think you should try the cutlet thing and tell us if it works, cuz I would love to know. I would try a favric store for the studs, they probably sell them there. :)

studsandspikes.com is a good resource for metal studs.

I found this Balmain look alike for sale on EBAY!
