although i dont really like this version not as good as the original. im still going to go out and buy it and would like to encourage others to aswell.

or download it.

wouldn't downloading it defeat the purpose of the single?

:flower:

I would prefer to just give money to a charity than buy their cd/single or suchlike, as they have to spend money on it in the first place...why couldnt they just do a small campaign about it...get the celebs to go on tv shows to talk about it etc, costing them nothing...as the tv shows want them on already and usually pay them...(putting that money forward for the cause too) i'm sure that would work out more cost effective, correct me if i'm wrong. Also the problem of making too many cd's and losing out on profit that way. I'm in no way saying dont buy it, but i believe there would be more beneficial ways of raising money. :flower:

I think the whole concept is a really admirable one but why didn't they just write a new song - the original was crap & so is this one....

"....at christmas time we let in light and we banish shade....." - mmmm how poignant........that has to be one of the worst lines......

Yah.

What some people seem to forget is that during the twenty years in between the two releases, he's been continuously involved in individual projects for the same cause. For him this isn't just a way to spend a day... but I suspect for a lot of those involved it's just that, and so fab_fifties_fille's idea mightn't really work in practice....

Besides, Christmas is capitalism's field day. May as well strike while the shops are hot... :innocent:

who ARE those people?!?!... :o

the only one i recognize is bob geldof...and i don't want a re-make... !!!

i'm a very sensitive sap though...and i admit tht when i hear the original i still have to choke back tears... :(

i'm such a sap... ^_^

I agree with you Soft. I LOVED the original as a kid and still do.....actually I still have the 45.

I love the new version, in fact I am listening to it right now. Its rasing money and thats the main thing.

I have alot of respect for Bob Geldof and his work with the cause, and i'm fully aware of his constant support for the charity...and believe thats the way to go about it. If you watch the original video in comparison to the new one, in the original they'v all just got up and havnt bothered with make up..they'r not trying to make themselves look better. U should see the amount of make up some of them have on in the new video and some have very obviously been styled. The second is overriding what the cause is about, and I believe it's just about making the singers look good. The new video (right at the very end) the lead singer/guitarist from the band 'the darkness' has a guitar solo and decides to pelvic thrust his guitar at the same time, this I think is totally demeaning to the cause, it's like he just doesnt understand the message they're trying to convey. This of course is after it shows them all watching a video of the people theyr helping worried faces and all, close ups on those who look most effected by it, I dont think this should'v been done either, on the first video they showed footage of who/what we'd be helping by buying the single along with footage of the people singing it. However on the new video i feel they'r trying to say 'look how affected they are by this' about the performers. This is already known, if people have emotions themselves so it just shouldnt have been done in that way. I think it's an absolutely awful situation in Africa, and rightly so theyr helping, it's just I could question many of the performers motives. I just hope the money from this cause is enough to make even a few of the victims lives more comfortable.
Long live Bob Geldof, and his workings with this extremely worthwhile cause.

yes he has !! I think its amiazing when you see that woman whoi was a starving baby featured in the orginal bandaid !! its amaizing how she is now i didnt realise it was the same person until someone told me so.

I think its good, a lot of people say that its morbid, I supose it is but it's the reality that some people live in.

too many people try to avoid the reality of poverty in the third world, no matter how much you ignore it it's still going to be there...acknowledge it, help if you can, use it to appreciate your life and all you've got, and see the chances you have in life...take them :flower:

I know the whole point is to raise money, but on a superficial note, I can't stand the re-make. I actually like the original song, but I never knew the lyrics were that bad!
