A MICE DAY'S SHOPPING
SIMON DOONAN has inadvertently included live animals in his latest installation for the windows of Barney's New York. "We just did a collaboration with Payard bakery in our Madison Avenue windows," he told PAGESIX.COM. "They gave us tons of gorgeous French bread and we used it to spell out the worlds ALAIA in an homage to the great [Tunisian-born] French designer." However, it seems the display is proving as popular with mice as it is with fashionistas. "[They] can be seen scuttling round the window at night – quelle horreur!" the star creative director went on. "Despite the mice, I am going to leave the windows for another week or two as they are proving very popular – the live animals add a je ne sais quoi. As long as the mice don't munch on th Alaia clothes they can stay." Besides, he adds, "people are playing 'spot the mouse'." (April 7 2005, AM)

awwwwwww. thats so cute. untill they stop to think that this may be a health violation? rodent feces can be quite unhealthy even in small amounts.

but, I LOVE mice. so cute. thanks for sharing this info!

Mouse excrement is really, awfully foul smelling. I think she'll be wanting to change out that window display in just a couple of days.

Also, good luck keeping them from plundering the dresses for bedding material. Mice all but entirely stole the back part of the headliner out of my car in the years it was in storage!

Well Selfridges have about 20 Zebras in their windows, fortunately they're of the fake variety though.

^^^ As do Harvey Nichols, and snakes and butterflies and horses...but it looks really bad. It could have worked, but just didn't

Much prefer the live mice. I have told 3 people the story already! :D
