THERE must be something in that country air, with two teenage beauties from the Barossa named as finalists in the Girlfriend magazine model search

Karri Pledger, 14, and Rebecca Downes, 15, both from the Barossa, were among eight chosen to represent SA in the competition.

And with audience members at Westfield Marion commenting on Karri's similarity to Aussie supermodel Gemma Ward, it seems she could be in with a real chance.

Judge Ursula Hufnagl, from Chic Model Management, said the panel had been extremely impressed with the 250 girls who had turned up to audition, meaning they ended up choosing eight finalists instead of the requisite six.

Model hopefuls strut their stuff

"The quality of girls is sensational, the best we have seen in the competition's history," she said.



From 30 finalists around the country, five will be chosen to fly to Sydney to compete for the major prize, which includes a shoot with Girlfriend magazine and a two-year contract with Chic. Past winners have included Catherine McNeil, Alyssa Sutherland and MTV's Ruby Rose
