Best In Show: The Mondrian Suites
Designer names you need to know

LOS ANGELES: Friday, April 02, 2004

WHAT: The Suites at The Mondrian

WHERE: The 12th floor of L.A.’s Mondrian Hotel was abuzz with editors and buyers popping between penthouse suites to take a look at designer goods Wednesday through Friday. If you didn’t know these designers before, you should now.

BEST IN SHOW:

Rebecca Rich
Known for her clean, minimalist feminine looks, Rebecca Rich’s fall 2004 collection included a classic cut coat with adjustable belt, a ruffle skirt, and a tweed cropped pant “with an extra low yoke which really gives you that lift.”

Sugar Public Relations
Pampering? Yes please. Sugar PR had guests lining up for a Pure Fiji Coconut Indulgence reflexology foot treatment from Trilogy Spa in Hermosa Beach. Also up for grabs: sugarberry martinis and plenty of pastries. Janet Lee's travel accessory and Petote pet carrier lines lured the dog lovers, oblivious to the canine chaos once drinks were served. Other suite standouts: Michelle Roy’s colorful, exotic jewelry and Tristen Sullivan’s Piping Hot Pajamas and Bare Bellies maternity wear.

Bill Wall
Pamela and Kid, Nic Cage, Ozzy, and Pink are all fans of Bill Wall’s heavy-duty sterling silver jewelry designs. The biker/surfer designs chokers, pendants and rings for the rock ‘n’ roll set, as well as custom motorcycle seats. A denim line is also in the works. Inspired by the Hell’s Angels and the NYPD, his designs, hugely popular in L.A. and Japan, have already been featured in editorials from Rolling Stone to Harper’s Bazaar.

Poppie Couture
Poppie Harris’s label Poppie Couture is only two years old but her girly creations have already developed a cult celeb following. The highlights: luxury leather fold-over bags, and the “Ultimate Baguettes,” a slim clutch available in every leather and color imaginable. Her tanks with vintage lace inserts, rosettes, and ribbons transition easily from jeans to suits to eveningwear.
