Black Lipstick/Lipgloss

Gotta say that key to this look IMO is having reasonably big lips. Such a dark colour on thin lips is just going to make them look thinner and it's not too flattering. However if you have a generous mouth and flawless skin, I think you should GO FOR IT!!!

I forgot to take a picture! I shall when I'm next at work. Yes!

awesome, thanks! just one of those looks that's so good in eds/couture and i'm dying to see how other people pull it off in the real world. i go out a lot and work in music/fashion/etc and know there's situations where it'll socially be ok/not look too extreme/not be a big deal, and just would love to see how other girls rock it too.

If I'm honest I hate putting pictures up because I hate my face, but I shall for the purposes of black lipstick help! Being thirty has made my face so much more chunky...I hate getting older

What do you do? Fashion/music is a great industry if you want to rock the black lipstick trend on a daily basis. I am a dj and there a lot of girls with the black lipstick thing....but none of them have my beloved YSL black gloss. I am so glad I invested in it last year....

technically i work in music/fashion/entertainment PR at a marketing/events company owned my a music/fashion magazine in NYC, and i freelance as a photographer and modelled and dj'd a bit a few years ago. my whole office is tattooed and whatever and i live between williamsburg and the lower east side, so i mean, for crying out loud, if anyone is in a social/work situation where these things don't bat an eyelash, it's me.

i bet the YSL lipgloss solves a lot of my worries -- i've got this great near-black red Mac lipstick as well as one of their black glosses (awkwardly sheer), but they're both just so bleed-y that it's almost impossible to wear. I'm thinking i might get a black liner pencil (or just use my eyeliner?) and then fill it in with the red and blot a bit (a la fantastically obvious rodarte ss10 i guess) which would solve my 'o noez black lips' worries as well as the whole 'now my lips are running like my mascara' problem. hm.

If someone likes a dark gloss, my rave is

OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) Lip Tar!

It's massive color with just a tiny drop of this gloss and is a satin finish gloss so not overly slick and shine, its like getting a matte lipstick and adding in a tiny bit of gloss to get the same effect.

I love these I want all the colors to mix into each other and never need lipstick again.

You have a great job, you're so lucky! My job is good too, but I do feel, as someone that is self employed, that I'd love to be part of an organisation where I work with people as opposed to being the boss.

The YSL gloss is great, but I don't know how you'll get it because it hasn't been about for a year, but there might be some on e bay? I totally have the same problem with the bleeding if I don't use that, the mac gloss and lippies are so messy and crappy, i'm really disappointed. What I do is fill my lips with burgundy lip liner and then put the black mattene on top, then the ysl lip gloss and it looks really intense. I'm a big fan of the look with a yellowy tinted foundation on my very pale face and a flash of pink blush.

after all this quibbling and asking other people to post pix, i finally just started wearing the near-black lipstick out and i kind of love it... just a bit of clean matte foundation, diorshow mascara (but none of my usual eyeliner), and the lipstick, it doesn't look nearly as extreme as i'd thought... it looks black from far away but in light is obvious as a very deep black-toned brick red. loving it  thanks for everyone's input etc!

hahahhahahaahah. i am well into my 20s.... age and age-appropriate dressing is a social construct, all depends on where you are and who you're around

I'm 30 years old and perfectly happy wearing black lippie. It'd be different maybe if I was a secretary in some office somewhere I spose, but I'm not, thankfully, so I shall continue to slap on the black lips!

I'm too shy! I hate my face, and it's stupid because my face gets put in magazines now and then so I have to be brave really....but I don't like people to see me and be mean about my horrible fat face!

^Dont feel bad we dont bite  and to make you feel better here is a pic of me trying out the whole YSL look normally I do my bangs swept to the side but I straightened them for fun.

There are some pics of girls at my club wearing it this week, but not me, I went very bare faced for a change, just pale and dark eyes. I shall do it next week for your viewing pleasure. I love all these pics by the way, beautiful!

You look great with the black lipstick! And i really think a lighter eye suits you better.. maybe when wearing a black eye you should smudge in a little.. smokey eye! it would look great too! you are very beautiful ^_^

^^ thanks!! i usually do one or the other and am usually smudgier with the dark eyeliner for most situations, that photo was with really bold black liquid before going out one night

more adventures in almost-black... getting to be a problem how often i'm doing this, hahaha. i actually used a black waterproof eyeliner as a liner here and then filled in with a really dark red (a la more blended rodarte ss10 lip as mentoined earlier:(

I've got to admit the black lips look has been growing on me since I've been seeing a lot of beauty ads with it lately but I'm blonde (and ghostly pale lol) I think it would be too much of a clash for me to wear...
