Ok, so I saw the movie "Black Snake Moan" and really got into the blues music. Does anyone know of comparable Blues tunes/CD's I could find??

Surely Blind Lemon Jefferson (and his contemporaries such as Lead Belly), after whose song the film is named, would be a good place to start.

You would probably prefer the delta blues I'm guessing.

Don Gardner and Dee Dee Ford - I Need Your Lovin
Howlin Wolf - I Have A Little Girl

both really really raunchy and roadhouse type blues
and isn't that the best kinda blues after all?

Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Big Mama Thornton (who had her tunes lifted by Elvis), Bessie Smith...Good places to start...

John Lee Hooker is great

Skip James, Memphis Minnie, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie Johnson, Bukka White....
if you go to Robert Johnson's myspace tribute there's links to tons of Delta Blues greats.

nice thread.

Son House is a must. Also check out Guitar Slim, Skip James, Ida Cox, and Ma Rainey.

the black keys who are a new-ish band..the lead singer has a great blues voice

fourboltmain, have you ever checked out Fat Possum Records? Some fantastic artists have put out albums on that label.

Judging from your interest in Son House you might really like Robert Belfour, Charles Caldwell and R.L. Burnside. Brillinat and raw and very expressive. I mean those three are really soul stunning.

Oh, the Black Keys are signed with them, too. But the label has a fairly wide variety styles from that authentic, acoustic sound (which I adore :)) to the more rockish sounding stuff. :flower:
