I'm going to start with Celina Jaitly because she wears the best sarees ever. Saris is a traditional indian outfit that is draped around the whole body.

Her style is so glamorous.

I can't find a better picture of this sari but its breathtakingly beautiful

Like most indian celebrities Celina doesn't dress very original or unique in western wear but i like this dress on her and it totally fits her style.

This woman is beautiful, but her face is like plastic  excess of make up? :innocent:

People joke that she puts on enough makeup for the whole industry. She looks very pretty when she goes for the natural look which happens once every four years.

Inter, i'm guessing you're not a fan of saris but calling someone grotesque is kinda rude. Or is that accepted here?

I like this dress on her

The problem with indian western wear is that it looks like they got it from forever 21 or a similar clubbing store but then you hear that the outfit is designed by a famous designer.

It's much too glitzy and cheap looking for me which is why i prefer pictures of saris but if anyone is curious to know what indian western wear looks like here are some pictures.

I love the use of colour, very different from western clothes.

I don't really like the Western wear, it's a bit too glitzy and cheap looking for me. I love the saris, though  The colours are amazing.

Same here, I love the saris, but that Bollywood stars style is tacky and eighties, with that loads of old fashioned make up, the blue contacts and big glitzy jewels. Yes, cheap looking.

Well, I'm Indian, and I partly agree with you, but it's a bit harsh to call it tacky and eighties. You know, a lot of the styles here in America are very similar to styles in India..almost as if they were derived from India. For example, the chunky jewelry people are wearing here in America came from India first, and you can actually get better jewelry in India for much less money. Also, all the long skirts people are wearing here are similar to the ones in India.

I don't think that INTER meant to offend any Indian nor Indian style. Many things that are now popular in the West originated from Asia and Eastern countries. But that doesn't make East better than West, nor it is worse.
I've never been to India, but I'm pretty sure there are many well dressed (in Western clothes) Indian girls outta there. But I think it's hard to deny that Bollywood Western fashion (at least on this example) is tacky and cheap looking.

The sarees are beautiful, but most of the western style/make up looks very ' 90's beauty pageant '.

STL is right I never EVER meant to offend Indian people at all, but it´s just that i don´t like the Bollywood style though I like many Indian costumes, textiles and saris.

I never said that the East is better than the West, but yeah I agree that Bollywood Western Fashion is tacky and cheap looking. And I wasn't offended. All I was trying to say is that yeah the Western Wear may be cheap or whatever, but America has taken a lot of things from India as well that in my opinion look cheap and tacky, depending on where it's from though. Those examples posted up there of Celina Jaitley tho are terrible examples to represent India. there are so many other gorgeous girls who have a more natural approach to things..not many tho I must admit.

thanks for opening this thread
i love shilpa shetty style, she always look sexy and confidence

You guys are judging indian clothes from a western mindset. We think that these clothes look 80s, glitzy and cheap but its actually a relatively new trend in India and it's not 80s inspired. The inspiration for shirts with shiny embellishments comes from the fusion of western wear with indian wear. For example, fashion forward people in India will pair jeans with a tunic such as this:

and it will be more appreciated and liked than wearing the same jeans with a Nicole Richie type top. Also, Indian people love embellishments and shiny stuff on clothes and they find western clothes plain looking. In order to make western wear more appealing to indians, designers fuse the two elements and combine indian embroidery/embellishments with shirts and skirts and to make traditional indian wear more appealing to the younger generation, they make the tunics shorter, add spaghetti straps to saris etc.

I want to add that when Celina Jaitley wears western clothes they don't look dated or old fashioned. Her outfits are actually closer to what women in the western world wear than what indian women wear.
I don't see anything 80s like about these two dresses
