I really love books and the way it feels to step into a room and have them everywhere.....on coffee tables, in shelves, stacked in a corner.....sometimes it's hard to pull off without looking cluttered or chaotic.....and it can be hard to find a way to display them without buying an ordinary old bookcase and stacking them in....

So I thought I'd start a thread for books and where we can keep them.....rooms full of books, home libraries, unique ways to display books, original bookshelves, whatever comes to mind....

Here are a few I find really interesting.....

I have a few pictures saved on my computer of home libraries I've always loved, I'll search soon and post them. I love the idea though, and the examples you posted!

I think I'm going to like this thread! I love the look and feel of books, but right now my 'library' is sitting neatly in a long row across my bedroom wall next to a painting, also on the floor. I think it looks really nice, but a couple of people say that it looks like I just moved in. Hopefully this thread will give me some ideas!

I know exactly what you mean. ^ All of my records, books, paintings...line my floors. I hear the same thing. At the moment I suppose it does feel like a gallery. But one day I will have a fabulous library ^_^

some more great looks....

WOW -

I really love the look of books as well. It makes a home seem so much more lived in and welcoming...

i'm such a big reader and am buying books all the time so it's cool for me to see where and how people keep and store them...

i like to keep all of my books.. even the "fluff" so when i have a home of my own some day i expect i'll have quite a collection..
finding creative ways to display them can really add a lot to a room and make it seem very cozy i think..
makes you want to just pick out a book and relax..
almost calming in a way

I really need to invest in a bookshelf because I have piles of books everywhere lol

Here's some I like...

I'm in absolute love with this last one. It's my dream space!

^ The one where the books are sorted by color is beautiful, but I could never, never do that :ninja: I must sort books by category & subject. I have one shelf for all my favorite contemporary authors; another with all my favorite classics. Then by subject ... gardening ... collecting ... astrology ... etc.

No one ever walks into my living room without commenting on the books ... and lately, with the stacks on the floor, they want to know what I'm doing with them  I claim to be sorting them out or something, that satisfies them, but really of course I have just been using them :innocent:

Btw, my bookshelves are all pine from Cargo, which are sturdy enough to really hold books. I have 3 (slightly) different styles (purchased at 3 different times). Hanging above them are b&w photos of the Eameses from their own collection--they were part of a museum exhibit.

What about when Belle walks into the library of the Beast's castle and there are millions of shelves of books that reach the ceiling? There were even ladders to reach the ones on the tippy-top!

ta-ta that sounds great..
i'd love to see pictures..

do you have a camera?..

..

Just fun cameras and the one in my cellphone that I don't know how to operate  My real life is extremely low-tech, perhaps to compensate for the high-tech job ... if you want to PM me your address, I could send you some prints whenever I get the current camera developed ...

I love the library is Beauty and the Beast - it was my main reason for watching it when I was little

I love the one where the shelves merge into the stairs!

Oh, absolutely!

In regards to the magnificent B&TB library, has anyone ever been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC? I've always loved that room, and thought it may have inspired the Disney beauty of books, espcially in regards to the ceiling that seems to stretch into heaven! What a perfect place to loose yourself in any other world!

At my old home, I didn't have a dining room; I had a library  A new meaning of food for thought....

Here's a so-so picture of the Biltmore library from gosoutheast.com. I wish it had a better view of the ceiling or the rest of the room, but it's not a bad taste:
