wow...very small collection... only 11 looks!

this on Lily is extraordinarily beautiful. i know it's not unexpected but perhaps that's what is so great that they didn't take using HC to stray or try something completely outside their world.

It's difficult because there is a growing dichtomy in couture between the newer fresher younger people who are doing much more wearable couture and the older houses who are doing big extravagent shows with over the top makeup and dresses. It's interesting to see how this will translate into real life. i personally find it difficult within myself to rectify these two extremes and understand both of them for what they are. if that makes any sense

adding,i mean, they do have alot HC qualities already in their PAP so I'm not too surprised to see them continue as such. Just a couple more gowns though.

yeah it is a small, capsule sized collection...but maybe that's a good thing....didn't stretch them too far and allowed them to focus on the workmanship and the process of every piece.

meg,i think the younger set such as these two great examples with MMM,they're allowing the world to see that craftsmanship takes on many forms and transcends mere platforms in which they're presented. in other words, it isn't just limited to out-of-this-world gowns and such. at least that's my own interpretation.

^I can find myself pretty well in that interpretation.

Meanwhile, this is really beautiful. Exactly what I expected from a Boudicca couture collection. Very nice!

I think its very difficult to tell from the photos the level of craftsmanship and who is to say that a Boudicca couture creation did not take as much effort and time as an out-of-the world fantasically in your face Galliano gown?

I for one love what the younger HC set are doing - it is presenting a different side of couture. Perhaps they are two extremes are it may be difficult to address the balance but again I think these photos can be rather deceptive. Boudicca IMO have also been really smart in just presenting 11 looks. Better to do something well succinctly than do it in a mediocre way many times over (Lacroix is partially guilty...)

Well, it isnt so difficult to understand, largely because the history of fashion shows that before the late 1950's there was no "high end" ready to wear industry, everything was made in the couture atelier,
after the establishment of the RTW industry in the 60's Couture became a separate industry unto itself. as a result, the practical needs of the customer became irrelevant with regards to couture.
YSL was regarded as the greatest designer of the last 50 yrs, largely because he made couture clothing that were very much as wearable as the RTW.
the couture staged today by Dior , etc, is largely for editorial purposes,
the younger designers are more interested in selling and also dont have the resources to do the extravagant shows that the bigger houses have, therefore smaller presentations with more wearable clothes become more feasable.
I personally like the smaller shows, where designers can focus on the quality and the technique of clothing construction, also, these are clothes people can buy and wear, as opposed to stuff that goes directly to the archives or to a museum..........

susie,i think considering their reputation as extreme perfectionists it's safe to assume that perhaps given only the 11 looks, they probably spent even more of their meticulous time on this. but you are right too, that the images can be decieving....probably even more work than we realise! okay, maybe i'm letting my faithfully stubborn fandom cloud my judgements

^I'm joining you in my fandom as well...!

I have a few of their RTW pieces and its about the closest thing I have to couture just because the garments make me feel like they were MEANT for me....

the flawless jackets get me to most. it's a beautiful collection in such an unpretentious way.
thanks Scott!. will they be showing again next season or were they just invited as guests like *ahem* IOC?. :ninja:

I like the last gown and the white/cream shoes -- but like other hc collections so far, I am not very interested or excited. I would love to see more detailed shots though.

The idea of having only 11 outfits is good.

Mulletproof, I think both Boudicca and Cathy Pill are guest designers this season invited by Chambre Syndicale. Boudica will probably show RTW at New York again... damn I wished they returned to London!
