i think for "real life" this look only really works when the bralette is worn underneath something--whether it be sheer, crochet, or an open vest/waitcoat..
only then do i see it working..

I like the idea of wearing a bralette like a vest, over a breezy shirt.

I saw alot of these in h & m today in jersey, and denimn and some how they seemed very very wearable .. i think this is a look you could easily pull of in everyday were as well as more formal wear as well
