Céline Opts to Keep Resort Under Wraps

A FASHION SCOOP (SORT OF:( Céline — the Skull and Bones of fashion? On Monday, the house held mini-shows for press, WWD included. In the past, Céline has closed such presentations to photographers, but sent out photos to run with reviews. Not this time. A quick check-in postshow to confirm the arrival time for the photos revealed: Shhhhhh!

One of Céline’s p.r. ladies explained firmly that the plan is to keep Phoebe Philo’s most recent design activity secret for a while. No reviews, no tweets, no phone photos (that means you, Meenal Mistry!). The strategy (one first tried and since abandoned by Tom Ford) is to hold off on all press until closer to the retail season. Alas, some of us are precluded by current employment from accepting entrance into Céline’s secret society. Hence, this word on another stellar Philo outing: A leaner yet still relaxed silhouette dominated the tight lineup marked by a distinct utilitarian vibe. This showed up in a mostly neutral palette of khaki, black and white, and bold D-ring and pocket details. While these rendered straightforward chic, a pair of transparent white dresses over loud underpinnings — one green, one purple — made a slyly subversive tweak on nurse’s garb. There were also rich suedes, including an ultrachic belted lavender shift and fabulous two-toned minks — one color coming and another going.

is there no byline on that story in wwd?

is the author kept secret?
shame- it's SO well written...
i'd like to see more writing in that tone...
very elegant and erudite...

thanks for posting...
i guess it's a reaction to people saying how they are bored by the time the collections hit the floor...

the review makes it sound pretty cool though...
i think the strategy is working in this particular case...

Looks like someone boarded the Miuccia bus of pre collection secrecy.

With all the copycatting that is being done not just by high street stores, but also by her fellow luxury fashion house designers, I can't say I blame her.

They need to get over themselves, it's just a Resort collection... They're usually her weakest though, so I can't say I care.

I feel the same way. As soon as i read the title i was like 'oh well, everybody's coping her, i can't blame her'

But i really want to see these

I don't blame phoebe, her aesthetic and designs are copied sooooo much.

aw I was so antsy to see the collection, but I do get why this is being done.

I like it, keeps the clothes from becoming overexposed too quicklu

A very smart move by Céline. It must be annoying for Phoebe seeing all her designs so blatantly copied by basically everyone.

It's good that they're regulating. Their Resort last season has to be one of the most copied collections. The trend it spawned over to majority of brands in Europe for their SS looks.

True story. As much as I am dying to see the collection I don't blame her at all for doing this. She knows she doesn't have to pander to the masses to sell her clothes, they do that on their own.

I think so too! I really appreciate that is free of unnecessary or excessive vocabulary as is mostly the case ; this is straightforward yet charismatic.

Anyway, I support this decision, it all makes sense.

I kind of like that it's kept under wraps, it makes it that much more exciting.

It's funny to read the justification here in this thread vs. Tom Ford's. Whereas Tom was pretentious and delusional for trying to do the same thing, the majority of people are totally fine with Phoebe doing it.

Comical.
