Carey Mulligan and Shia LaBeouf End Their Relationship

Carey Mulligan and Shia LaBeouf have said goodbye to their romance, PEOPLE has confirmed. The Transformers star and the Never Let Me Go actress, who were first linked in August 2009 after being spotted kissing at a New York restaurant, called it quits "some time ago," according to sources.

Since the split, Mulligan has been in Los Angeles shooting the indie film Drive, opposite Ryan Gosling. She checked in to the Best Western Hollywood Hills Hotel for a few days while the film shot nearby.

"I don't know why people are so down on the Best Western," Mulligan joked to PEOPLE at Monday's Hollywood Film Awards in L.A., where she presented her Never Let Me Go costar Andrew Garfield with an award. "They have the best sweet potato fries I've ever had."



The hotel is known for its 101 Coffee Shop, which was featured in 1996's Swingers and is a popular late night diner for young Hollywood.

Am I the only one that thought Shia was too good for Carey anway?

Well I don't really get the idea that someone is 'too good' for another...

Shia acts very dumb sometimes, says stupid things, has a criminal record, drunk behaviour, involved in a car crash, refused the police's breathalizer test, throws coffee over papparazzi. I like him in action films so I'd say I am a fan of his but it's clearly Carey who is too good for him! She has a flawless record, professional, adored by the industry, oscar nom., BAFTA win, huge talent. He's only going to bring her bad publicity and distract from her work. Well that's from a PR perspective I have no idea why they split and I wish them both well

But the reason for this is probably just what you said, that she's the goody goody girl with her perfect roles and all the critics kissing her a*s while he's the cool and 'badass' kind of Hollywood guy that us women adore

i dunno.
i couldn't stand Shia until he got on with Carey (for a second there, he showed he recognizes elegance and poise), he got under my skin a bit, but i think he's back on the black list after this.

I was actually a Shia fan first. Never heard of Carey AT ALL until he dated her. Then oddly enough I started liking her a bit more. So this situation sucks for me because I love them both and just want them to be happy... ALL WHILE still wanting them together.
