now that he finally has a website i'm a little disappointed with what i see...

these were the drawings that made me expect something in the first place and i loved them for their ghastly charm:p:heart:

Oh my

I like these, I like simplicity. Agree with the ghost-like feeling.

and this is what disappoints me now as it seems a little stiff and too much in the vein of charles anastase...

i agree with the likeness of anastase, estella mare ^^ these ones also feel a little soul-less
thank you for sharing. it is the first ones that hit me!

i saw him speaking on tv a few times. they said he is the illustrator for Dior
you can find him often on Diane Pernet's blog too (laugh)

I like the one on newspaper, but I feel that the first batch you posted looks too unfinished, and I agree, the second batch looks a bit stiff.
: /

I think Spacemiu or someone had one of his illustrations as their avatar way back when which prompted some frantic but futile googling of his work until the creation of this thread.. thanks Estella! The spare and baleful feel of the earlier sketches are delightfully disconcerting, while the second set are admittedly a little plastic but still very beautiful. It would be a shame if he completely abandoned his former aesthetic.

I was just at the website...
Does anyone know what he did for Sitbon, Galliano and Dior? It says he designed than illustrated. I wonder what he would have been designing

There are a few illustrations on the website that are interesting too, like the nudes that still stay nude although they are wearing Givenchy or whatever. And, the portraits of the artists, instead of models, displaying jewellery

Oh I like his work. He's got some beautiful portraits of his friends, the Yazbukey sisters.

I love these-

However,I do agree that his work is kind of Anastase-like....somehow I would hope he would find more of a niche as in the former(although those actually remind me of Devastee, come to think of it)and latter posts. But I suppose that vein of the Anastase style isn't bad company though. I do think his work is less surrealistic than Charles.

tinuviel, i remember space's avatar, too:heart:

two months off, i do like the unfinished feel about the first batch, actually. i always think it's best to make a flaw an advantage if you're not able to draw flawless (who is?) ... and with the later ones i feel he is trying to be flawless (maybe with an ironic touch but still) and failing...

cutxpaste, you remind me that i haven't had a look at jr1's work for too long:p

scott, i think he was featured on the devastee website some time ago. those gothic images were too over the top for me at first but at second glance they're quite funny.

^really? I never saw that. I thought they were all done by Francois.

hm, i wouldn't give my word for it as everyone knows i act a bit granny-ish these days .... but i seem to remember something:innocent:

they probably did collaborate on something before...i cannot remember for the life of me.

the ones on post #3, while still beautiful, relatively seem too commercial, lifeless and flat. it's great though that he has some variety in his work. i have to say i'm smitten with the ones on post #10. just slightly comical but his aesthetic is still quite felt.

Hope no-one minds me picking up this old thread, I saw this guy's illustrations in '200%' magazine, he has added a lot to his site and his style seems to have progressed a lot compared to the drawings in the 1st post.

For Christopher Kane/200% Magazine:
