Charles Anastase F/W 10.11 London

I think the pieces may be beautiful on their own, but I think that as a collection the lack of cohesiveness is distracting.

I really love his work but, ever since his 2007 hiatus, he just seems to have lost so much confidence to project his vision and find a comfort zone

I think that is exactly it. Jumping around so much and not really sticking to a customer base or identity is a definite sign of a designer losing confidence in their brand and point of view, I think. He seems like he is in a place of not really knowing where to go and just making these random collections due to showing something on time.

I would imagine it being very difficult to "find yourself" while constantly also having to put something out when you don't even know what you are trying to put out (if that makes any sense).

such thorough and well rounded comments, Mullet. i don't have much to add....your reflections on the collection pretty much mirror my own. i loved ss09 so much and this to me is a disappointment and seems a bit lost..

also agree Merveille that it must be very hard to rediscover or redefine your direction with so many pressures, especially very time sensitive ones. it's hard to force inspiration and it's a shame that designers need to constantly 'produce' something rather than taking the time to focus and put out something worthwhile.. it's unfortunate that to take time out presents such a risk of losing your place or your relevance, or at the very least losing people's very short attention span.. i don't know what's worse.. producing something uninspired or losing people's attention but at least only presenting something when you truly believe in it and have something to say..

This looks like something inspired by Camille Bidault, especially the palette.. and totally not what an Anastase fan and customer would want, I mean, an oversized yellow shirt and long/minimalist morticia dresses?, that's Ann-Sofie's territory.
I don't understand why he struggles so much to find a balance.. the sequence of his collections almost feel tense these days.. you can always tell what he was aiming for as he seems to have a defined idea of fashion and dressing yet the result is often incoherent, he swings from ultra frilly to contrived girlishness to forced eccentricity and dull commercialism, delivering a good and thoughtful collection somewhere in the middle (S/S 09).. I really love his work but, ever since his 2007 hiatus, he just seems to have lost so much confidence to project his vision and find a comfort zone where he can be himself while still integrating trends and be commercially appealing, which, judging by his last 3 shows, all seem to be a major concern for him.

I loved his work before, and I love this collection as well (even though it would benefit from a few improvements)....couldn't it be that he has changed because he's been inspired by other ideas and thinks it's fun?

But I'm not very much for an artiste who follows his one true path/vision even if it only leads to repetition.

I can still feel the essence of Anastase in this collection. I don't think it's lost by changing the palette and drawing inspiration from other sources. His artistic spirit is strong enough to do that and still retain a sense of self.

im trying to find some part of it that i like but i really cant. its just weird.

You know individually these pieces are probably so beautiful and wearable. But the way this collection has been out together is just so bad. Every outfit is like from a different collection. How unprofessional.

I'm glad he has evolved, and is showing great tailoring here. However, it doesn't look fantastic, but in fact basic, except for some silly pieces. His basics are very nice, and Miu Miu fans may like them.
