Chicago shopping

^^^ Great, few new boutiques await you :D

Oh, don't worry! I've been watching this thread in anticipation for a while. Not too much shopping to do around here! (Coupled with the fact that my family never goes on vacations!)

And I really want to go to Ikram this time! :woot:

oh the BCBGMaxazria on Oak street. They're just moving a few doors down

Good Lord, I had completely forgotten about that location! Makes more sens. Thanks for clarifying. :flower:

IKRAM is @ 873 N Rush St. Very nice store indeed. Ikram and Blake probably the only stores in Chicago that I would say worth visiting (IMHO of course). The prices are pretty high though, but selection is not too bad for Chicago. I wonder how often they have sales?

Chicago's New Player

Euro fashion arrives in the home of Da Bears

March 12, 2007—After a decade living in the Windy City and jet-setting to Europe every few weeks for gigs, producer and DJ Jeff Mills had come to three conclusions about the state of menswear in the Midwest: There was a lack of access to cutting-edge labels, a hole in the market between streetwear and traditional dress clothes, and too many of the pieces out there seemed cut more for a Bears linebacker than leaner fashion types. ("Those of us who wear a 44 or 46 have to shop in the younger boys' section here," Mills laughs.) He and partner Yoko Uozumi hope to remedy the situation with Gamma Player Shop, their new boutique in Wicker Park that will introduce Chicago to a rotating selection of obscure designers like Milan's Mojo Rising and ex-Kenzo upstart Gilles Rosier.

Mills calls Gamma Player a concept store, and he and Uozumi will carefully choreograph the contents of the pint-sized space each season: First they'll select a handful of men's and women's lines, and then bring in CDs, books, and a temporary artistic installation to reinforce the season's theme. For the opening, Mills has created a giant macramé wall hanging based on black holes—intended to convey the notion of designers abandoning rock in favor of futurism. As for the clothes? "Eventually I would like to get as experimental as I can with the menswear," he says. "But for spring we're starting out simple." And, one assumes, slim-fitting.

Gamma Player Shop, opens Thursday at 2035 West Division, Chicago, (773) 235-0755, www.gammaplayer.com.

Sounds fun, but I'm afraid it's probably more BAPE than it is high fashion. I'm emailing them to see, just the same.

Oh thanks for the post...im interested in seeing what they will carry..

Apparently Paul Smith is looking for a location in Chicago. It'll definitely sell menswear and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some women's pieces too.

^ I heard about that too and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for women's wear as well!

Thanks for posting the article about Gamma Player Shop, ilaughead! My boyfriend might be interested in their clothes. I hope you'll have a lot of fun in Chicago; it's a great place to be, especially when you're a visitor! ;)

I think it's more likely he'd buy a Victorian house in one of the neighborhoods and re-do the whole thing, like his Notting Hill store. As far as I know he owns the properties that all of his stores are located in so wherever he ends up, it should be interesting.
