Child-like Style

bad picture, but i had to add this! (www.lakelandelements.com)

i've never heard of this style being referred to as kinder wh*re, so of course i had to google it :-P. According to Wikipedia it means this:

The look itself was probably defined best by Kat Bjelland and consists of torn, ripped Baby Doll dresses, sl*tty makeup and leather boots. It basically works as a sl*tty, D.I.Y. subversion of the traditional Prom queen look, and the supposed feminine, fragility of the image works in stark contrast to Bjelland's extremely aggressive singing style. It caught the attention of the male dominated Rock music press (particularly in the UK,) who were the first to label it Kinderwhore (or Baby Doll depending on which publication you read).

interesting thanks.
sounds pretty dirty..or kinky if you ask me...LOL
I hope it doesn't mean kinder as in kindergarten! that is how I took it...and not kinder as in kind - er

Ok, you might think I am weird, but I was doing a search for vintage stuff on ebay, and I noticed alot of people referring to this child like style as "kinder wh*re" !!!!
OMG..isn't that soo weird? I was shocked...
I mean, I am all for the cute looks/ lolita style, but that just sounds harsh!

"Kinder wh*re"?? Yeh, that does sound quite harsh!!

there's an irony to kinder wh*re... people like kat bjelland and courtney love used to play with typical girly/cute attributes and tore them apart... there was someting rebellious to their take on being a girl..... i was highly influenced by this in my teens .

I would say I was too^
But had no idea it was called kinderwhore...
I do remember the babydoll phrase and lots of spreads in magazines like "sassy" LOL

i think adding a splash of colour, youthful prints or quirky plastic jewellry can give anyone that element of fun- no matter what age. if you don't overload yourself on the one trend, it's safe. i think that child-like style is very open to personal style, it can be adapted depending on what colours/fabrics are used- more so than other styles so in that way, a child-like style item in the wardrobe could definately become a staple. :) kinder wh*re.... i know what i'm dressing as for the next fancy-dress party!

& the way the model's hair is done reminds me of a friend i had in elementary school.
maraschin0 - i've gotten a lot of compliments about my necklace! it is adorable. i really love buttons and random charms on necklaces.

I love this. Its very interesting and I had never seen it before. I have tons of childlike items in my closet, but I never thought that stuff would be on the runways.

A bit late jumping on this thread, but just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE this style. I wear it a lot and have even had to go to a childrenswear designer to print some t-shirts for me in my size :p

I like child-like style a lot...

Natali Portman had this yellow mini dress on once for some event (very child like)...and some czech magazine described that look as a dream look for pedophiles...

It was a cute dress...but I have to say that sometimes girls make themselves look sooo sl*tty with that child-like style...

I have this sweater by Paul and Joe...it has this mouse on holding baloons. ^_^ It's cute but I have no idea what to wear it with...

Sounds cute! I wear my child like tee's (usually really the only thing childlike i have wish I could find dresses but they are trickier) and i just mix them with whatever. I wore a tintin tshirt i have (white), with a black blazer, slim fit jeans, and red patent ballet flats. I would wear it with a skirt though too. just try things out. I do think it need to be juxtaposed with something 'older' though

I think alot of this plastic jewelery (and a sweater that was earlier posted with dinosaurs on it) was maybe inspired by this whole emo/scene trend.
Alot of 'emo' kids I know are into clothes with dinosaurs on it and lots of plastic jewelery. And the emo stuff is huge right now.

This Kid-Like style is really nice though. Very original.

In the movie "The Brothers Grimm" Angelika was wearing the most adorable praerie/child-like clothes...I just fell in love....I've been trying to find photos from the movie wear you can really see her clothes..alas, so far I have found none (so annoying).

Anyway, watch the movie....Angelika has the cutest oufits in it, very inspiring! :flower:
