it's more like what a parent would make their child wear

i haven't met a child who would want to wear that/those

Gius, that's an interesting observation. I was thinking along similar lines recently with regards to kids like Suri Cruise and the Obama daughters. They've become style icons/trend-setters in their own right, but I wonder how much of what they wear is based on their own personal taste and comfort level.

Does TFS has a relevant thread for children's style, trends, and fashion design/marketing? It's a facet of fashion that I would love to know more about. Plus, this thread shows I can't be the only one who finds children's style inspiring.

Totally^ Especially Suri. I don't know the other daughters...
But they do tie in with the market part...
influencing real children with what they wear...maybe...
or at least the mothers of the children

We don't have any threads like you mentioned, but it would be interesting to see! Especially looking into what is advertised to children and what influences styles, than 'kid celebrities style' (which like you said is maybe non-existent). Feel free to start one
I do remember seeing some designs in the Aspiring Designers thread in CEBF forum, they were for the children's market. I think the colour story was from Harry Potter

Oh, thanks! That line by Beyonce, . Hers is an extreme version, but I've noticed that some parents dress their kids in a very grown-up way. It's ironic in regard to those of us who find inspiration in the modesty and innocence of children's clothes.

Child-specific fashion is only a recent phenomenon (last century or so, I could be wrong), just as the concept of having a 'childhood' is recent too. Maybe adult-like dressing of children dominates most of history, but the difference now is that adult clothes are far more sexualized; it's jarring to see a child mimicking that, as with Beyonce's line.

^You're right, sorry for getting off-topic. To make amends, here are two pictures from Rosemary's Baby. Mia Farrow has a child-like style in the film (or is it just typical 60's style?). I assumed that her baby-like hairstyle was meant to enhance the satanic baby storyline, but then I read that she randomly cut her hair after a fight with Frank Sinatra.

i remember reading it someplace..

the peter pan collars
the lace trim and "babydoll" dresses, which were revived a few seasons ago now

Someone on the "beauty inspiration" thread mentioned Shelley Duvall in Robert Altman's 3 Women, and I instantly thought of Sissy Spacek from that film (her entire character is very child-like) and in general. Much like Mia Farrow, her looks complement this style.

i was thinking about my post earlier,
about children maybe not wearing some of these clothes posted, like they seem to be clothes parents make their children wear.
what i realise might be that it's more what has been designed for children
so that's why people associate some formal clothes as being child-like
part of the history of children's clothing

It surely is. Ever heard of Peter Pan syndrome? Both movies are amazing, the first outfit is from Badlands, which is like a darker (!) Bonnie and Clyde.

I would characterize Castelbajac's collection as playful, definitely, but not child-like. It's slightly too avant-garde to remind me of child-like elements, perhaps only children's clothes that have faces, such as cartoon characters, on them. Still, those dresses!
