Prolific and talented lensman, editor and creative director, Chiun-Kai Shih, AKA “Chunky” as he’s more affectionately and widely known in the industry, works with some of the most celebrated personalities and brands in fashion, media, and entertainment today.
Chunky was discovered in 1988 by the publisher of Conde Nast China, the company responsible for producing GQ and VOGUE’s Taiwan editions. For the last decade, he has been their chief US-based photographer and contributing editor. Since 2010, Chunky has been a prominent contributing photographer for August Man Malaysia, that country’s leading men’s lifestyle magazine. After achieving notable acclaim for his work in the publishing world, Chunky has since worked with celebrities such as Lebron James , Novak Djokovic, Nathan Adrian, Kevin Bacon, Zachary Quinto, Hugh Dancy, David Gandy, Alicia Keys, Cindy Crawford, Daniel Henney, just to name a few.
In the world of fashion, Chunky has worked with designers Todd Snyder, Robert Geller, Frank Muytjens, Billy Reid, Michael Bastian, Tommy Hilfiger, Steve Alan, Peter Som and Scott morrison to name a few. He’s also worked with award-winning designers Jason Wu, and Thom Browne, both acclaimed for designing dresses worn by First Lady Michelle Obama.
Transcending traditional photography mediums, Chunky has collaborated with digital photography company Hipstamatic to create The Chunky Lens, and The Americana Lens for the Hipstamatic iPhone app, available through the iTunes app store. Recently, he’s been named Creative Director to Hipstamatic’s leading digital magazine SNAP.
