Christian Dior 1996-2002 : The John Galliano Early Years

hot thread!

I
COULDN`T
NEVER
FORGET THAT

EXQUISITE :brows: !!!

That dress on Shalom on the last page, and that entire collection, was so stunning. There was this one look on Stella Tennant, a grey tweed ensemble of a jacket and long, fitted skirt. The jacket was incredible, it has this massive collar that kind of framed the head and neck and top of the decollete and covered the shoulders, and then this long slim silhouette from there down all topped off with a huge coil collar similar to the one worn by the Padaung tribe (giraffe women).

Firstview used to have the collection posted, but that one isn't a funtioning link anymore. I wish I could find a picture of it, it's an extraordinary look.

Some other looks from that collection...

So true, Spike. That grey jacket on Stella is just a masterpiece. Here are the FirstView pics: models striking impeccable poses in impeccable outfits.

that collection was indeed so extraordinary, i saw an interview in wich john explained it was inspired by mata hari and gustave klimt, after researching his work i realised that his summer 2004 haute couture collection also had some gustave klimt influences, all of those animations and ilustrations he used to get inspiration from, well i don´t have a pìcture of stella wearing that ensemble, but that outfit now belongs to Kioto´s institue of indumentary, i have a book about fashion history by Taschen, and a picture of it appears on it, here it is:

^ Yes, that dress on Shalom is very Mata Hari, he also talked about the jewelry being very important to the collection (in another interview I read) because he wanted to create an "aristocratic profile"

And indeed the jewelry was gorgeous, lots of Maharajah looking earrings and necklaces.

i'm so amazed by how this hongkong actress/singer carry the look

she did that dress no justice, imo. You'd need to be very slender to look good in that dress, it has such a 30's vibe to it that any ample curves kind of ruin the line.

Spike413: I beg to differ (assuming you are referring to Gisele in the qipao). Qipaos are made in such a way that they show off the curves of a body (notice that it's tight, very tight). Anyone with a good figure will look great in a qipao because it doesn't hide the curves of the body. Furthermore curves give a life to the shiny effect of the silk.

I love silk. Such a gorgeous fabric.

I must say, that's a very stunning qipao by Galliano. The top's very Chinese, the way it's cut, but the bottom of the dress is very Western (flaring out and folding into very elegant curves).

I love Galliano, especially for his audacious flair. He doesn't hesitate to shock or surprise and even takes pride in doing so. He's very flashy but very witty at it at the same time - this applies to most of his collections, at least - I'm not very satisfied with some of them, but everyone has their ups and downs, no?

i tried to like Galliano's crazy collections many times but it is just not for me:sick:
but i congratulate Dior for its 100 years:flower: it is a great achievement i thinkB)

Glad to help!

Corbis has a great selection of Galliano for Dior from his first show in 1997 all the way through to now, though there is much more detailed coverage from 1997-2001.

They aren't the full show lineups, but ever since firstview changed gears and eliminated the archives Corbis is the best and only game in town.

Some more animals
I must admit they're my favourite :ninja:
