Christopher John Rogers Pre-Fall 2023 New York

I really like what CJR has been doing. His pseudo-couture/sportswear mix has the sophistication that the heavy majority of his peers are lacking. I'd like to see him heading OdlR one day.

lots to look at lot to buy, very fun and all american, couture meets american sportswear

It's very, very New York.

There are some nice pieces scattered throughout, and I'm rather fond of the second look, but there's a lot going on. Very much a "throw it at a wall and see what sticks, but also lets get some glue to add a couple of other things just in case" in similar vain to Francesco Risso's Marni.

It does have a little bit of that Oldham or Mizrahi charm, which I think is something that Rogers and even Vogue have been pushing for. It is needed in the New York fashion sphere because they obsessively need their darlings, I just don't see the huge appeal of this. Also, people praise his designs a lot, yet a decent amount of them aren't that flattering... What gives?

Sometimes a lot lately I get caught in a spiral of thinking if I’m either just too stimmed out to feel anything or if it’s all really that boring. What reality this is for?

He’s at his strongest when he goes simple and straight to the point, his extravagant sense for color is enough…when he starts experimenting with shape, we get some very strange results. Weirdly enough, I’m not annoyed by his work, just not that interested.

The Commedia dell’arte gimmick at least lends some sophistication to his love of rainbow prints, the star printed look is kinda cute.

it’s a little bit of everything but we can still see the guiding inspiration/ idea.
there are some very strong looks and I love his playfulness with shapes and volumes.
in love with the black and white dress! gorgeous.
