Closed clothes
Things are changing in Europe. No longer can we claim to be the street style leaders of this continent - in recent times we've seen groovy designers and labels emerging from unlikely European countries including Sweden, Norway and even Germany. Closed is a Hamburg-based label which has been selling in the UK for a few seasons now and specialises in wearable menswear and womenswear made mainly from natural fibres. Closed's chief designer is Sophia Lewis, a Welsh woman who studied at Central Saint Martin's before going on to design knitwear for Jil Sander. For autumn, Closed takes its inspiration from our 'Favourite Things' and pays particular homage to Steve McQueen's style. This translates as home wash denim (a washing technique that replicates the effect of domestic detergents on the fabric), white shirts, pink ties, lime green jumpers and hooded parkas, herringbone trousers, sweats and T's with massive prison numbers printed across (as in The Great Escape). For girls, there are pink and black stripy fitted jumpers, pleated denim skirts, fuschia cotton trousers, pillar box red knotted knits, green herringbone mini skirts and belted cardis. It adds up to a casual, practical and flexible wardrobe made from durable fabrics. Check out Closed and dare to go Deutsch - by way of Wales!
* Closed is available from stockists nationwide including House of Minky in Brighton, Arc in Manchester, and Cube in Liverpool. Prices range from £30-£300.
