Wow. Can't believe we haven't a feature on them.

I love them. Although some have considered them an art fluff band,I find that complete rubbish. I think their musical genius was always this ability of layering like a composer would. That in addition to Elizabeth Fraser's voice. The lyrics maybe difficult interpret but somehow, her voice,so compelling and forceful made you understand the emotion behind it. I seriously cannot listen to them and her without shedding a tear.

I can't say what's best as all are brilliant, imo. Especially during their tenure with 4AD in 80's.

oooh I love them!.

we've had this local radio show for a million years where they play their stuff every night, I'm always wondering 'wow, what's the name of that band', and it's usually...the cocteau twins!. :p :magic:

Oh, I've actually been thinking of starting a thread on them for a while, but I thought maybe it wasn't enough people arround here who liked them.

I love this band, and Elizabeth Frazer has an amazing voice!

My fave album is Garlands, and the song with the same name is beautiful! Other fave songs are Wax and Wane, Alice, My Love Paramour, Sugar Hiccup and Cherry Coloured Funk.

And haha, my schooldesk signature is Cocteau Twins. :innocent:

^sorry for the late response.

you're quite welcome,ivy* :flower:

today i've been listening to Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops....on repeat a few times. Amazing song

:heart::heart::heart:

How anyone wouldn't love the Cocteau Twins after experiencing them is beyond me. I put them on par with Dead Can Dance, some of The Cure and a large many unheard-of ethereal projects for having written some of the most beautiful music ever, but the volume of their greatness is larger and more consistent than most, I've discovered (or been led to believe). So many of their albums are just plain masterpieces... Head Over Heels is probably my favorite, but I know I've mentioned that multiple times, in other threads...

I love that the rhythm of Liz's words is more important than their meaning. (Or gives them meaning; they're pretty unintelligible by nature...)

One of the most innovative post-punk bands of the 1980s, Cocteau Twins built a sound based on woozy atmospherics and singer Elizabeth Fraser's utterly unmatchable vocals, most of which featured lyrics of made-up words, words plucked at random from the dictionary, and her native Gaelic, which varied strongly in pitch in minimal times...

I have yet to pick up on any of the Gaelic... has anyone managed? :ninja:

So true! Still blows my mind how such writing and talent can fly under the musical radar at times?

^i deem anything from "treasure" as magic!

jennifer,i dunno if i've heard that either. i know sometimes when i listen to certain songs i think she's singing gaelic but you never know since you can never interpret the lyrics.

that reminds me of something I recall Alison Goldfrapp saying(and they were influence on her too-just listen to the lyrics on Felt Mountain)about lyrical content...."lyrics when written down can sound quite naff but when sung they can have a certain poetry to them". And I think that's what is so great about the Twins. They just allow the emotion of the sounds and her voice remain in total force. They're almost like compositions, their music.

What does everyone think of This Mortal Coil (a musical collective featuring Elizabeth Fraser on vocals for select songs, and otherwise incorporating several of the Twins' labelmates)?

Filigree & Shadow

I love how their sound is so frigid, yet unbelievably passionate.

Heaven Or Las Vegas is one of my favorite cds. it is so wonderful.

One of my favorite bands ever. The voice is hypnotic and they were a great influence to other bands. I love this Mortail Coil also, my favorite song is Another Day
