I like seeing black models at CDG (I can´t remember seeing them before...).
Watch the 90s shows. There have always been black models. Even Naomi Campbell wore Comme des Garçons... This is a label that's been around even before the Internet.
One thing is sure: they produce it.They sell this collections at store?
While I know some men who wears mainline runway CDG & Yohji, i’ve Never experienced a wearer of this type of CDG collections.I know one customer in N.Y. who collects this, a charming mature lady.
jeanclaude can't remember more black models because, frankly, years can go by without any at CDG. I'm admittedly not American or British and kind of wired to run a racial check in most things my eyes or ears engage with (visuals, small talk, etc) so it takes a while or it takes someone pointing it out but yeah. This isn't a luxury brand so I feel the impact is not quite as devastating, in fact, I always thought they went for the cheapest, most forgettable models they could afford, since they'll likely cover some 70% of their faces anyway. But maybe I'm wrong. Either way, good to see them looking more international!
^ Some very old ladies I know from work exclusively wear CDG. Some look good (as good as you can at that age), others plain cuckoo. They're art donors, a little less than amazing and inspiring, and usually more in the astoundingly rude and vile category, with a sartorial uniform that [they believe] should stand out and inspire respect the way their wallet does.
(bit resentful? yes, but not lying!)
I am 38 y.o. I know CDG exists since late 60s...you´re not telling me anything new here.
I remember Naomi in the 90s...but I just can´t remember more black models in CDG...
You said that you couldn't remember a Comme des Garcons collection with many black models, but a few of their 90s shows had multiple black models. This is what I'm pointing out, not how old Comme des Garcons is. Here, for example:
Comme des Garçons Spring 1992 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show
Comme des Garçons Fall 1992 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show
Comme des Garçons Spring 1993 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show
Earlier shows from the 80s also used multiple black models.
Sometimes the casting is diverse, sometimes not. I don't think Comme des Garcons is a label that is really concerned about some kind of socio-political checklist, but good to see diversity in this collection.
