Controversial Opinions on Fashion

The very dear and centainly y great person Christy Turlington and beautiful , her career it's a cycle of the same. Women of less convencional beauty they take you into wider universes.

"Nepo baby" is pretty broad; it doesn't mean you have to be in the same job as your parents, it's just more about overall exposure, opportunity, and connections. I mean, you use Chloe Malle as an example of a nepo. Her career has been as a journalist and editor, while her mother is an actress/model and her father a filmmaker.

Both of Amelia's parents are very famous (I'd say close to household names) in the US. Kendall Jenner's family wasn't fashion royalty either; they were reality TV stars. Would you deny she's a nepo? What about a Hadids? Sure, their mom did some modeling at some point (as did Lisa Rinna lol), but the source of their fame is through general reality TV fame and wealth, not specifically their mom's modeling. The other thing people seem to ignore with Amelia is that what really got her attention was her romance with Kourtney Kardashian's ex. Were it not for her press relating to Scott Disick, would there have been as much interest? It's all a domino effect.

I'm not really mad about any of it. There are centuries of precedent for nepotism. I think giving a beautiful person with famous parents a modeling gig is just about the least unfair/unjust version of nepotism there is. But I'm confident Amelia Gray would absolutely not be an in-demand model were it not for her mother's fame.
I understand the broadness of the term, I'm not a generalist myself so I'll be specific. If you're familiar with Chloe's father Louis Malle and his work, you know that she literally can get a lot of other prestigious positions in the media at large, not just fashion. Nepo, to me at least, has to come down to a certain degree of undeniability in terms of influence. Her parents were basically a cinema power couple, and her maternal grandparents were influential also. Chloe is a third generation nepo. It's different.
If I have to nitpick, I'd say Kendall is not nepo in the same sense because she wouldn't be where she is without Kim (and their collective TV show that she also took part in from day 1), not her parents, and Kim got her fame through a few things but her fashion debut was thanks to Kanye, not even her family name which was treated like dirt in fashion at that point if I remember correctly... The Hadids are closer to my definition, their family name can secure them actual inaccessible positions, if one of them decide to be a hotelier I'm sure some doors are just flung open no questions asked.
I wasn't focusing on the modelling world when I wrote that though... more behind the scenes. There are different ways to define it, I just didn't think TV as a field held much prestige but I could be wrong. The nepos at brands like Chanel, YSL basically come from noble families, not popular ones.

I think that's where the main criticism lies. Some days ago I was looking at pictures of one of the new popular models, either Mia, Stella or Angelina, and they were next to another model and I don't know why I thought someone had tagged the photographer instead of the model and then I realised the model IS a part of the Sorrenti family.. but not once did I think she looked out of place or less model-ish than the others. For whatever reason, besides immense privilege, she also got the height genes, the symmetric face, undeniable conventional beauty that is slightly above average but natural and not altered to force her way into the field and.. more power to her!, she would be crazy not to use that cocktail of opportunity and see where it leads for now.

I see the cases where the qualifications are objectively on a par, if not slightly above, than a self-made person, as less nepotism and more an extension and full understanding of the many years of dedication in the family.. sort of like a craft and/or appreciation for a field that has been passed down. It is often both, but still.. I think it's a waste of time to be upset about it when this dynamic exists in pretty much every family.. I think it's more recent (last 100 years?) that young people have been breaking away from what their parents did and gone on to do something completely different.

When someone is so not qualified, or has everything everyone else has been rejected for or not given the time of day, and is basically just riding on a last name/mom's fame.. that's when they encounter resistance, and the more they double down and call critics 'haters', the less humility and more entitlement they show and they more insufferable they come across. I frankly can't stand Amelia Gray either, I find her vulgar, reeking of insecurity and the combination of her botched surgeries with her ED have given her a wonky eye that resembles the odd expressions of drug/fentanyl users.

I'll use this opportunity just to say that I cannot stand Chloe Malle either lol. I've been around these East Coast princesses for too long and.. just the sight of her 😷.. and of course the voice, the 'heheeh I'm so fcking vanilla' content that comes out of her mouth, ugh, hello candid girlfriend. You cannot convince me she wouldn't have gotten the top prize of fashion publications if it wasn't for her family.
