Copy Galliano....i feel guilty

i'm 16 yrs old guy who is doing school project which is fashion design. then i really love galliano's dance skirt couture. i want to put the puffy wavy skirt at the bottom. but mine will be spiral flower shape forming by using wire string instead of wavy zigzag line like his. but i feel uneasy becasue i feel like copying someone's else design.

do u think i'm counted as copying?

galliano's designs are in and of themselves, "copies".

the skirt and dress are borrowed from traditional flamenco costume.

copying happens with everything in the fashion world nothing is truly original anymore just different enought to pass as new and suposedly different.

i agree with everyone who posted. copying is such a subjective thing to pin down...without getting analytical or philosophical, i'd say you're safe creating what you want to create and using galliano as inspiration.

btw my dress's name is Voodoo Chic. i was inspired by a poem called voodoo girl.

will have a heart brooch with pins. and for decoration. i will put candles on her head inspired by skull candles and jpg's lucia creation.

Her skin is white cloth,
and she's all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins
sticking out of her heart.


She has many different zombies
who are deeply in her trance.
She even has a zombie
who was originally from France.

But she knows she has a curse on her,
a curse she cannot win.
For if someone gets
too close to her,

the pins stick farther in.

Ghost, your idea is quite original, much more original than Galliano's to be honest, so no, you are not copying Galliano, you are 'improving' galliano who has copied a flamengo shape..
Your whole concept sounds fantastic and only too original , i love the 'heart+pins' sketch/idea , go for it

your project sounds like an Antonio berardi collection that was based on Voodoo i cant remember what season though -i'll look it up but there was a long dress that was made out of like tulle and stuff and this model emerged from smoke with a sort of crown with candels arround her head. i thought it was great because hot wax was dripping on the model as she walked and she didnt flinch once (how cool is that?)

I don't think he's improving...he's making something completely new! The idea sounds absolutely great, I can't wait to see the result sometime. I would have never gotten on this inspiration. I think it's a very clever thaught
