UK Cosmopolitan March 2007: Coleen McLoughlin

I've mentioned this magazine in the Cosmo thread in the Vintage discussion section - but just in case anyone is interested in this and might miss seeing that post, I'll post the details here as well.

The March 2007 issue of UK Cosmopolitan is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and in the UK, it comes with a free purse with four different cover shots, each representing a different decade. The one I bought (pic attached) is the 70's one, with Farrah Fawcett. The others are Yasmin Le Bon for the 80's, Daniela Pestova for the 90's, and Kate Bosworth for the 00's.

The main cover - of footballer's girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin - has a fold-out inner page showing some covers from over the years (pic attached, plus close-up pic of fold-out page). Apart from that, there are not many other pictures from their archive. Only worth it if you're tickled by the idea of the purse. Which isn't as big as I've made it look in my picture - it's only about 8" long.

I dont get this at all,why oh why is Coleen on the cover?
She is not famous by any means i dont care who her fiannce is,or that she writes an awful column.Even Paris Hilton has more legit claim to fame then her.
I dont hate her,i think she is pretty but i dont like the idea of celebrating women because of who they sleep with.
And she was even featured in UK Vogue once!!

^ I know, that was heart-breaking (the Vogue editorial). She makes me angry, Coleen and between her and Paris (who i also hold equal loathing for) I'd much rather see and understand Paris to be in the cover too,

I think Coleen is a sort of 'everywoman' that readers can look up to, but who doesn't threaten them. She sells the idea that her life is achieveable, because she herself is so ordinary. I don't pay her any attention at all, but I can see how her appeal reaches some.

1. NO magazine threads should be started without credible information as to who is going to be on the cover or a scan/image of the cover. Examples of credible information are WWD or seeing a preview of the cover either in person or on a television program. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any information from a gossip mag, blog should be placed in the Cover Rumour Thread.
