Cowboy Boots

Perhaps I've been under a rock, but I honestly have seen them that much here in Chicago. But then again, being a college student, I feel that everyone around me doesn't care much for fashion. It's the same old A&F sweatpants, flip flops, and pony tails.

From the New York Times today:

Girls in Boots: Attitude on the Hoof

SAUNTERING down Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan last week, Ayesha Habib was not about to rustle up anything more substantial than an iced mocha grande. But you would not have known that from her gear. On a day when the temperature rocketed to 98 degrees, Ms. Habib, a part-time fashion stylist, wore a T-shirt and rolled-cuff combat shorts - and a pair of rusticated cowboy boots. Tropical heat be damned.

O-u-t.

If you're on a ranch, fine. On a horse, cool. In Texas, fabulous.

LA or Miami shopping? Too trendy to be taken seriously.

I see A LOT of ppl in LA wearing cowboy boots....everywhere u turn, someone is sporting them. (i was there for a week on vacation). I live in texas and there are only quit a few in comparison.

I wore them way back in the early nineties with jeans(black authentic Tony Llamas) and they've been in storage since '93. I've since pulled them out and worn them with a dress and belt once. It was fun and cute, I'll do it again. I live where no one knows anything, so it doesn't matter. I also luckily look a bit younger than I am (due to being short and thin), so trying it again the second go around (though differently) isn't as bad as most would think.

I got a pair of miss capezio cowboy boots on eBay years ago, I wore them before they were trendy, while they were trendy and I'll continue to wear them as long as they last :-) I dont htink they ever got big in cleveland, the only real trends that I can think of that were big here are Uggs and fake LV purses

Oooh, just join the forum and one of my favorite topics shows up.

Yes, I'm a southern girl and cowboy boots have been something a staple here for, I dunno, a century or so but not really amongst the hip set until recently.

I've been wearing a great vintage pair I found for about two years now, always with a skirt or dress or occassionally skinny jeans (though I'm not a fan, they're not very flattering on me.) I don't like to go all "western" with them, more inclined to pair them with something more swank as an unexpected exclaimation.

Cowboy boots may or may not be "done" in larger cities, actually I'm inclined to believe they are for sure, but when I go to a bar in Memphis and see three or four girls sporting them, I know it's time to set them aside for a while. Just until the "fad" goes away and I can go back to wearing them as the interesting and unique sorts of things that they are. On me, anyway.

to the person who originally posted this pic....are you from holland too? b/c if you are, i'm out of luck! i LOVE these boots, but i'm in the US

in holland we have soooo many different cowboy boots!!!:woot:

but i thought these were so cool, and they are so comfy!
im in love with my boots:heart:

does any one in the US know where to find boots similar to these? or vintage looking brown ones?

I'm in college and I've only seen (other than myself) ONE other girl with them on. And my campus is huge (20K people).
Mine came in handy during the winter/early spring months but now it's WAYYYY to hot to wear them. I love em. Even though the trend is on it's way out, I'll probably wear mine until it really catches on at campus.

Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan have embraced this trend.

I know everyone is entitled to her own opinionbut mine is against them. I never understood why someone interested in fashion at all would want to look like a cowboy. When I think of cowboy, it conjures an image of a tabacco-spitting, cursing, sharp-shooting, scruffy guy from the west in the 1800s. Not anything I'd want to remind people of. Needless to say, I don't and won't own a pair of boots or the associated hat. :innocent:
