David Vandewal graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In the early 1990s, Vandewal started to work as a designer with Dries Van Noten. He quickly began developing fabrics and accessories that soon became the groundwork of the collections. This work contributed in making Dries Van Noten a globally recognized brand.Vandewal has created editorial pieces for i-D magazine, Vogue Italia, 10 , The New York Times Magazine and currently works with leading photographers including Alexei Hay, Serge Leblon, Collier Schorr, Cedric Buchet and Mark Segal, to name a few.Vandewal has created enduring relationships with Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, Melanie Ward and Raf Simons. Vandewal consults for Louis Vuitton’s men’s line campaign and fashion shows. Meanwhile, in 2001, Vandewal began collaborating with Raf Simmons to help redo his men’s line. The line returned internationally with great anticipation and exceeded all expectations. In 2005, Karl Lagerfeld and Melanie Ward asked Vandewal to help launch Lagerfeld’s secondary clothing line, K Karl Lagerfeld. The Fall 2006 Couture and Fall 2007 Couture show closed New York Fashion week with an influential direction in New York Fashion

New York-based David Vandewal’s work as a stylist draws on both his extensive experience as a shaper of concepts and his pragmatic knowledge of brand building. Vandewal currently works with leading photographers including Cedric Buchet, Mark Segal, Patrick Demarchelier, Mark Seliger, Roe Ethridge, Walter Pfeiffer, David Benjamin Sherry, Serge Leblon, Richard Burbridge, Collier Schorr, Claudia Knoepfel and Stefan Indlekofer and Boo George to create editorials for W Magazine, Interview, iD Magazine, Italian Vogue, New York Times Magazine, WSJ Magazine, and China Vogue. Vandewal consults on Thakoon’s women’s wear line and Siki Im’s men's wear line, as well as for Calvin Klein Sportswear. He works with Barney’s New York on their men’s and women’s catalogues, and has consulted on Louis Vuitton’s men’s line campaign and fashion shows.
