Dion Lee S/S 2021 New York

I wish it wasn't so heavy on the current nineties trends like those thong **** bottoms every other hip designer is doing. Leaf tops and dress, knit dresses also, are good.
With accessories, this could almost be current Givenchy...

The Mad Max meets caveman look of the first few images isn't doing it for me.

But I like this:

I probably wouldn't jump up and throw my money at him but I can still enjoy his fashion for what it is - and wholeheartedly say that I like it better than Bottega Veneta or what the new Givenchy guy is doing.

^He moved to New York City and discovered techno music. But at least he usually wears his designs and he seems to understand this rave lifestyle quite well so I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to move on from the previous aesthetic. What's more, his work feels more tribal now and it's interesting to watch because at the same time it's rooted in technology and being ultramodern.

Those last two looks with monstera leafs are so obvious yet I love them. There's something subversive about them and that's why they're strongly appealing to me.

The point is that the execution of his ideas comes with a finesse that some other designers, such as GmbH, are lacking. You need to have a very 'body con' attitude to wear this kind of sexiness, but due to many of his styles being unisex and the rigorous modernity of his aesthetics, there is a balance there that prevents it from looking trashy-sexy. That is a very fine line to walk but to me it works, and is also why I find his take on body-con dressing to be much more interesting than that of, say, a designer like David Koma.

You can’t sit here and tell me you truthfully enjoyed this collection. Some of the jackets were okay, yes, but the majority of the looks resemble boring, stale clothes, nothing more, nothing less. Can we stop pretending these “designers” are relevant or even remotely creative? After seeing the fringe pieces, thigh high boots, off the shoulder tops, and “stylish” biker shorts, you begin to really ask yourself, “how many times have a seen this?”. The answer is rather simple, to many times to count.
