To celebrate the house’s 60th anniversary, Christian Dior issues a limited edition collection of bags inspired by Japanese elements.

The Japanese knot bag features a bow that is stitched by hand.

The elements of creativity and heritage come together in the luxuriously created Samourai 1947 collection by Dior.

The limited edition collection, released in conjunction with Christian Dior’s 60th anniversary, is a unique creation that has been described by bag aficionados as a work of art.

The four themed bags, which have been hailed as being the most interesting to come out in a long time, are a reflection of the creative spirit of John Galliano and the soul of Monsieur Dior. The bags offer a couture mix of Japanese tradition and elegance of the 40s.

Inspired by traditional Japanese basket weaving, the collection features the iconic Louis XVI Medallion in enamel tortoise shell and handcrafted handles. These luxurious details are used as a tribute to Dior himself.

The Intrecciato is inspired by traditional Japanese basket weaving techniques.

The Armour is inspired by traditional medieval Samurai armours. It features 198 individual scales that are hand woven together with hand-aged calf-skin leather strips, which takes a full day to complete. The bag is also blade cut and perforated.

For the Intrecciato, John Galliano was inspired by a traditional Japanese basket weaving technique. Different layers are woven by hand and each craftsman gives his own touch to create a random effect on the weaving. The bag is available in black, brown, green and purple in shiny calfskin and lambskin.

The armour bag is reminiscent of traditional Samurai armours.

The Plissé draws on Japanese fans and Dior’s feminine 40s pleats. The suede goatskin bag, which comes in green, white, brown and black, has embroidered ribbons on its body.

The tone on tone “Japanese bow” is the main feature of the Japanese Knot bag. The bow, which is entirely stitched by hand, is based on Japanese knots and haute couture. This comes in special Japanese traditional fabric lining in two versions: crocodile and lambskin in grey, and lambskin and suede in black.
